Bohemians' Owen Heary in pole position for Sligo Rovers job

Owen Heary tipped to fill Sligo vacancy

Bohemians manager Owen Heary is set to become the new boss of Sligo Rovers.

The 38-year-old Dubliner is expected to fill the vacancy left by John Coleman, who departed the Showgrounds last month to return to former side Accrington Stanley in England.

Former Shelbourne and Bohs defender Heary took over the reins at Dalymount Park last year and has steered the cash-strapped Gypsies clear of a relegation battle this season.

Heary has reportedly been offered the Sligo job, seeing off competition from managers in the UK and at home.

Sligo had been linked with former Colchester manager Joe Dunne as well as Republic of Ireland Under-19 manager Paul Doolin and former Shamrock Rovers boss Trevor Croly.

Heary's contract at Dalymount Park concludes at the end of this season.

Bohs head into the final game of the season on Friday against Derry in eighth place in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division, six points behind the Bit O’Red in fifth place.
