Paris St Germain have confirmed the signing of Edinson Cavani from Napoli on a five-year deal.
Although the fee has yet to be disclosed, it is reported to be around €64 million, which would be a French transfer record.
Cavani had been linked with a host of European clubs this summer, with Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid also rumoured to be interested in the Uruguayan forward.
However, the French champions had stepped up their pursuit in the last week and announced the much-anticipated news on their official website that they had signed their man this afternoon.
"The arrival of Edinson Cavani demonstrates the ability of the club to attract the best players in the world," said PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
"It is among the best clubs in the world” - Edinson Cavani
"The player [was] seduced by our project [and] is pleased to join an ambitious and eager to take on new challenges team.
"We are particularly pleased to offer the Parisian public a player of immense talent and one who is coveted everywhere."
Cavani has been in sparkling form since joining Napoli from their Italian rivals Palermo in July 2010, scoring 104 goals in just 138 appearances for the Partenopei.
He was in prolific form last season with 29 goals to help the Naples club finish second in Serie A. The tally also made him top scorer in the league.
The 26-year-old is just the latest big-money signing for the free-spending Paris club, who have recruited Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Lucas Moura, Javier Pastore and Thiago Silva in the last couple of years.
Cavani said he is excited by the prospect of Champions league football.
"It is among the best clubs in the world and can challenge for the Champions League.”
Cavani is expected to form a dream-team strike pairing with Ibrahimovic, who was named Ligue 1 player of the year after bagging 30 goals last season.
"Ibra is world class. It is a pleasure to play alongside him to try to win titles," Cavani said.
New PSG boss Laurent Blanc will also be hoping Cavani and playmaker Lavezzi can rekindle their impressive partnership from their days at Napoli together.
