Republic of Ireland skipper Robbie Keane was today awaiting a scan on his calf ahead of Tuesday night's vital World Cup qualifier against Austria.

Keane picked up the injury in Friday night's 0-0 draw in Sweden and while he was at training in Malahide this morning, he did not join in with the group.

However, manager Giovanni Trapattoni is hopeful that he will be fit to lead his side out against the Austrians.

Midfielder Glenn Whelan, who missed the game in Stockholm with an ankle problem, was able to train today.
