Shamrock Rovers 2-0 Cork City

In the major clash of the round Shamrock Rovers were too good for Cork City at Tallaght Stadium. The Dublin side saw off Cork with two second-half goals from Thomas Stewart.

Bohemians 1-0 Avondale United

A single goal separated the sides at Dalymount Park, where Bohs were pushed close by Avondale. However, Evan McMillan’s goal just before half-time gave the Phibsboro team victory.

Drogheda United 1-0 Wexford Youths

There was another single goal encounter at Hunky Dorys Park, where Peter Hynes hit the back of the onion sack with a header for Drogs on 27 minutes.

Malahide United 0-4 Dundalk

Malahide simply could not contain Dundalk, with the Louth team smashing home four goals en route to victory. Gary Shanahan, Mark Griffin, Lorcan Shannon and Bob McKenna all got their names on the scoresheet as Goliath ended David’s challenge. The hosts' misery was compounded by Alan O'Keeffe's second-half red card.

UCD 0-1 Derry City

UCD and Derry provided yet another close tie, with a second-half goal from Derry's David McDaid all that separated the sides at the UCD Bowl.

Waterford United v Mervue United - POSTPONED

The tie between Waterford United and Mervue United due to take place at the RSC was postponed following a pitch inspection which found that the pitch was waterlogged.

The tie has been rescheduled for Monday 27 August at the RSC with a 7.45 pm kick-off time.

If a replay is required, it will take place on Monday 3 September at Fahy’s Field with a 7.45 pm kick-off.

Shelbourne 3-2 Cherry Orchard

Shels and Cherry Orchard served up an entertaining clash at Tolka Park; the Drumcondra team came out 3-2 on top.

Mark Hughes gave Cherry Orchard the lead with a 30th-minute penalty before Philip Hughes levelled the scores with a penalty of his own.

Philip Hughes gave Shels the lead with his second on 79, before Mark Hughes also knocked in a second five minutes later.

Conan Byrne won it for the hosts on 82 minutes.
