Noel King's Republic of Ireland Under-21s went down to a 1-0 defeat against Turkey in a vital UEFA Euro 2013 qualifier in The Showgrounds tonight.
An 84th minute goal from from Oguzhan Ozyakup was enough for Turkey, who had Muhammet Demir sent off with 18 minutes remaining.
It is a hammer blow to Ireland's hopes of qualifying and they face difficult matches in Hungary and Italy needing victories to make the play-off for the competition.
A dull first half saw few chances with Turkey enjoying more of the play without overly troubling goalkeeper Ian McLoughlin.
Demir was dismissed for kicking out at Greg Cunningham and then seemingly pushed referee Kristo Tohver before leaving the field.
James Collins went close to giving Ireland the lead shortly afterwards but the home side were punished with six minute left when Ozyakup converted past McLoughlin and Ireland could not muster an equaliser.
