Alan Cawley believes St Patrick's Athletic can cause Hannover some problems in Thursday's Europa League third round qualifying first leg in Tallaght Stadium on Thursday.
The Saints meet the German powerhouse after progressing past IBV and NK Siroki Brijeg so far in the competition.
The tie will be played in Tallaght as Richmond Park does not meet UEFA's stadium requirements for the third round and at least 1,500 German fans are making the trip to Dublin.
RTÉ.ie Airtricity League columnist Cawley said: "It is a shame they have to play the home tie away from Richmond Park on Thursday but they'll have tremendous support and hopefully they make it a memorable night in the history of the club.
"They have a chance and while I'm sure Liam Buckley and his players are under no illusions as to the task in hand, their style of play is suited to European football and they've shown that in the last two matches.
"Pat's have progressed by taking their chances, something which Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers have lived to regret this year, and if they can keep up that ratio in front of goal, then you have to give them hope.
"Possession is the name of the game in Europe and Pat's are argubly the best at it in our league."
Cawley added: "They will need to be brave and courageous when in possession and impose their style on the Germans. It will hopefully lead to opportunities for Christy Fagan and some of the midfielders that have really shone recently like John Russell and Chris Forrester.
"They will also need to be defensively sound and it's imperative they don't concede at home to have any chance. It is a tall order but not beyond them.
"On top of all this you need a little bit of luck. Nobody gave Shamrock Rovers a prayer last year against a big name like Partizan Belgrade but they rode their luck and grasped every opportunity that came their way. Pat's can do something similar."
