Result: Andorra 0-2 Republic of Ireland
2257 Thanks for reading today folks and for the large number of e-mails. It is great to hear your opinions as always. We will be back early on Tuesday to build-up to the Armenia game. Well done Ireland for securing the victory.
2252 Trapattoni has said he will go out to beat Armenia on Tuesday night and he was very happy with the determination the Irish players showed to guarantee the result in the first 20 minutes.
2245 The reaction, judging by your e-mails, is mixed. We are all happy to be in this position but the manner of the win was disappointing. Armenia will provide a very hard test and I'm sure Giovanni Trapattoni is delighted that Ireland only need a draw.
2240 Davy Keogh presents Aiden McGeady with champagne for winning man-of-the-match.
2230 The negavity from the second-half will not last long when the realisation that a play-off spot is so close dawns. It is a position many of us would have taken at the start of the group. The problem is it is so boring to watch.
2228 Ireland have recoreed a vital victory in Euro 2012 Group B. It was not prety, but we are in pole position for the play-off spot. A draw is needed against Armenia on Tuesday.
Full-time: Andorra 0-2 Republic of Ireland
90 + 2 min The Ireland fans have not stopped singing all game - they have made the most of their this trip.
90 + 1 min There will be three minutes of added-time.
90 min We're in stoppage time. End the pain.
88 min Stephen Ward breezes by two Andorra players and crosses for McGeady who loses the ball after a poor touch eight yards out.
86 min Keane tries to find McGeady after a fine run that stretches the Andorran defence, but Garcia produces a vital clearance.
83 min A nice passing move involving Hunt and Keane sees the Galaxy man cross for Long to head just past the post.
81 min Sorry that my updates on the game are not rich in detail but this has been a very poor game. It was over after 20 minutes and from then we haven't seen anything to get excited about.
79 min Excellent play by Stephen Ward to get by two Andorra defenders and cross for Keane to lay it off to Andrews. The ball is stuck under his feet and eventually it drifts away from the Boys in Green thanks to intense Andorra pressure.
2213 "To all those people who are basically calling for Trap's head because he is 'only' capable of getting us to playoffs.
"Ask yourself, how many times have we qualified for a major tournament by winning the group?
"Trap is using our strengths to give us a playoff chance in a group where we are third seeds.
"Trap is performing above expectations and anybody calling for his head is not an Ireland fan."
David Nolan, Toronto
76 min McGeady has probably been the best performer tonight. He has constantly troubled Andorra as Ireland win another corner from his cross. Unfortunately Hunt, who has just come on, can't pick out a team-mate and it is a goal-kick to Andorra.
2209 "Are Irish people ever happy with anything? This game is bad but we are winning!
"We have dropped to the level of our opponents, and sometimes that happens in a game, give the lads a break.
"Ireland rugby to win ugly too by the way."
John Lambert, Arkansas, U.S.A.
74 min John O'Shea comes close to finding the net as he rises high from McGeady's corner. A third goal would improve the feeling from this half.
72 min Robbie Keane tries to pick out three onrushing Irish players in the area but Andorra get it away.
70 min Shane Long replaces Kevin Doyle in Ireland's second change of the night.
69 min Meanwhile, on the pitch, Ireland keep the ball in their own half and eventually see it back to Given. He lumps it forward and Andorra win the header and possession.
68 min I suppose it makes sense that we are not playing at full pace given there is such a massive game Tuesday but I would like to see Trap bring his subs on to make an impression. What is the point in keeping Doyle and Keane on the pitch? Long and Cox deserve a run.
67 min Fahey flights the ball towards goal but St Ledger can't make a worthwhile connection with the header and it rolls out of play.
66 min Ward wins a free 40 yards out as Ayala brings him down with a cynical tackle.
64 min Keith Fahey comes on for Glenn Whelan as expected. Fahey offers more creativity on the ball so hopefully the play improves.
2158 "There should be a law against this rubbish on televison. How Bill and the boys can call this a good performance is beyond me. A bunch of school kids could perform better."
James Rogers.
61 min I'm glad Robbie Keane was ruled offside because this is a horrific miss. McGeady's cross is fluffed by Duff and it falls to Keane who kicks it about five yards over the bar. Long was not readied for action as I reported earlier. It looks as if Keith Fahey will soon be entering the game.
59 min This second half has been quite boring and Andorra continue to muster small threats on the break. The Trap way is effective, for play-off spots, but it is not a brand of football worthy of getting excited about.
57 min Andorra are given a glimmer of making an opening when they win a corner but Pujol kicks the corner out of play, much to delight of the Irish fans who cheer ironically.
55 min Shane Long is about to come on for Ireland...
2150 Things are bad when we're looking to Shamrock Rovers to improve the way we play football.
2149 "I see you only post comments that suggest we are playing well. I'm sitting in Berlin and this is a 'groundhog day' email.
"We are incapable of ever winning a group. We don't pass,
we play hoof ball and now we will be faced with elimination, if we even beat the form team Armenia.
"That comment in itself tells you how far off the pace we are. I watched Shamrock Rovers at times pass the ball out of defence against Spurs with style and confidence. Maybe we need to look closer to home for manager and players."
Shane McGuigan
52 min Darren O'Dea's overhead kick (you heard me) loops over the bar as Ireland continue to ask questions of the minnows. Like the first half, a goal is coming you feel.
50 min McGeady strikes the post after good work by Ireland across midfield with Duff feeding the Spartak Moscow winger. It was a low shot from 20 yards by McGeady. Ireland are keen to get a third goal.
48 min Robbie Keane is denied a goal as Jose Gomes denies the Galaxy forward from eight yards. Gomes did well to come off his line and get in the way of Keane's shot.
47 min Andorra have been time-wasting in the opening minutes of this half which may give you an indication of what is to come.
46 min Keane tries to pick out a team-mate in the penalty area after lay-off by McGeady but Andorra get it away.
2138 Ireland are back on the field for the second-half. Northern Ireland have been beaten 2-1 by Estonia in Group C.
2131 The television pundits Liam Brady, John Giles and Eamon Dunphy are happy with Ireland's performance. Here is some thoughts from our radio analysts:
“We should be 4-0 up. Really positive stuff from Ireland. The Andorran goalkeeper has kept them in it.” – Eoin Hand
“Ireland have been positive from the word go. We have played at a tempo Andorra cannot deal with.” – Damien Richardson
“Ireland are in cruise control. It has been very, very comfortable. The only negative is the yellow card for Stephen Ward” – John Anderson
“It’s great that Kevin Doyle scored a goal. He has had a tough time at club and country level recently.” – Kenny Cunningham
2123 The primary goal of the evening has been reached as Ireland have taken a comfortable lead on the way to victory. The opening 25 minutes were excellent with Trap's men doing all the right things. They lose their way as the half went on but it is nearly job done.
Half-time: Andorra 0-2 Republic of Ireland
45 + 3 min It remains comfortable for Ireland as we enter an extended period of added-time, keeping that delay for the net repair in mind. Andorra have frustrating Ireland recently but I think it is more our own doing.
45 + 1 min Given gets down to pick up Lima's long-range free-kick.
45 min Keane turns two Andorran defenders and sees his cross blocked out from a corner. Ward should score as he has a free header when the ball is floated into the area, but he sends it to the right of the post.
44 min Given takes hold of a shot from Martinez as Andorra make a rare break forward.
42 min O'Shea fails to reach Duff's corner as Ireland threaten from a set-piece once more.
2115 "Listening from bed in Sydney - massive day for Ireland, but all going well so far! No more yellow cards please. Bring on the Armenians."
Colm Greene.
39 min And Ireland lose possession. Ireland have done very well to get this lead but they need to remember they can outpass this side and make them work. I know the pitch is poor but a more patient approach will create the chances.
38 min The game gets back underway and Stephen Ward lumps the ball towards Robbie Keane. It is not difficult to keep the ball against a team like Andorra. I don't see the logic in playing the high ball.
36 min There isn't much happening in Andorra with Marc Pujol receiving treatment for an injury.
2108 It is advantage Russia in Group B as they secure victory in Slovakia. That rules Slovakia out of contention and for Ireland, automatic qualification is no longer a realistic possibility.
Full-time: Slovakia 0-1 Russia
32 min Good passing from Ireland as they manufacture a chance for Ward but he can't get the ball onto his left foot and Armenia clear.
30 min What did I say?! Stephen Ward is booked for simulation under a tackle from Garcia. There is no need for Ward to go down with such ease and he receives the yellow. Ward will miss Tuesday's match with Armenia.
28 min Ireland knock the ball around the field and already I am thinking about who we can take off to avoid any yellow cards or injuries for Tuesday!
2101 There will be five minutes of added-time in Slovakia with Russia still ahead.
25 min Ireland continue to control the game and play at a very high tempo. Andorra are struggling to cope and more goals with follow. Ireland deserve plenty of praise for this performance. I know Andorra are a poor side but their attitude has been spot on.
22 min Robbie Keane is determined to get his name on the scoresheet as he shotos just over from the edge of the box.
2055 There are just six minutes left in Slovakia and it looks like we will just need a draw against Armenia on Tuesday to secure the play-off spot.
20 min Ireland work a clever free-kick with Ward feeding McGeady to blast the ball towards goal and the Andorran goalkeeper Jose Gomes can't stop it hitting the net. This is exactly what Ireland wanted and it is game over already.
GOAL - REPUBLIC OF IRELAND - AIDEN MCGEADY
18 min Ireland win another set-piece 25 yards from goal with Ward and Duff over the ball. The first effort sees Martinez run too early from the wall and he is given a yellow card by the referee. It will be re-taken.
16 min Emili Garcia has a free header at the back post from a free-kick, with Shay Given furious at the Irish defence for allowing him to drift away. The effort is poor and fails to trouble the Irish goal. Ireland need to be wary of those situations.
15 min The three-minute stoppage has come to an end and hopefully it does not effect Ireland's momentum. Their attitude has been terrific.
13 min There is a delay in play as the net has been ripped by one of the players and it needs to be repaired. I could do with the break!
11 min Kevin Doyle tries to send Aidan McGeady's effort towards the net but he can't react quickly enough from three yards out. Ireland are putting Andorra under so much pressure.
10 min Ireland have made a fantastic start to this game and they win another free that Duff will send into the danger zone.
2043 And so the situation in the group changes dramatically as Russia take the lead in Zilina. Dzagoev's shot from 25 yards out is deflected by a Slovakia defender and loops over Mucha into the net. Heartbreak for Slovakia.
GOAL - RUSSIA - DZAGOEV
7 min It was coming. There is titanic battle for possesion as Robbie Keane's shot is blocked on the line and John O'Shea heads towards goal, allowing Doyle to knock it home.
GOAL - REPUBLIC OF IRELAND - KEVIN DOYLE
6 min John O'Shea is ruled offside as he heads Duff's cross wide of the post. He should have found the net but it doesn't matter with the flag up.
5 min Given claims Marc Pujol's corner and Ireland break. Duff is brought down 40 yards from so he will whip the ball into the box.
3 min This is a fantastic opening by Ireland as Keane knicks the ball past the goalkeeper and, from the loose ball, he hits the crossbar with the goal vacant. The LA Galaxy man was slightly off-balance when shooting and the angle was difficult but he should have scored.
2 min Robbie Keane looks to head home from McGeady's high cross but Lima gets a vital touch to clear it away.
1 min Brilliant start from Ireland as Robbie Keane looms dangerously in the penalty area and the ball breaks to Kevin Doyle to shoot straight at the Andorra goalkeeper Jose Gomes.
2030 The hour mark has been passed in Zilina and still no goals.
2029 We're ready for kick-off. It reminds me of a League of Ireland game with the small crowd and stadium.
2027 The 350 Irish fans are singing in the rain as the team line up for the national anthem.
2025 Eamon Dunphy believes Seamus Coleman missing out on the bench is scandalous. I concur.
2023 The small number of Irish fans are making themselves heard in the stadium. It is still scoreless after 53 minutes in Slovakia.
2022 John Giles points out that the biggest defeat in the group for Andorra has been 3-0 and there will be no walkover.
2017 My updates from Zilina will not be as frequent as we focus on Irish matters. However, I will inform you of any goals.
2016 Giovanni Trapattoni has called on Ireland to respect Andorra. Trap also wants his players to listen to his guidance:
"For me it is important when the players believe what I say to them because I have experience. We must believe because we have good quality."
2014 Liam Brady is calling on McGeady and Duff to perform tonight. With Whelan and Andrews in midfield, I don't think there is any other creativity in the middle of the park so it is vital they do.
2012 Less than 20 minutes to kick-off in Andorra - it is getting exciting in Group B with the game still level in Slovakia.
An early goal please Ireland to settle us all down.
2008 Northern Ireland have taken the lead against Estonia thanks to a Steven Davis goal.
2002 "I reckon a draw in Zilina tonight would be a good result and would leave us only needing a draw against an increasingly dangerous looking Armenian side in the capital next week for the second spot.
"Working in the office in Capital Federal in Buenos Aires will have to track the Andorra game. Heading with the lads a little later to the Argie v Chile WC qualifier after work hoping for a bit of Messi magic after a bit of Doyle magic of course in a 4-0 victory for the boys in Green. Vamos Irlanda!"
Sean McBride
2001 No goals in the first-half in Zilina with Russia on top but yet to make the breakthrough. TV coverage and preview of Andorra v Ireland has begun on RTÉ Two.
Half-time: Slovakia 0-0 Russia
2000 "Just tuning in on the train en route to Amsterdam from Paris and hoping Slovakia kick off a great weekend for Irish sport with a jammy goal against Russia."
Dermot McGrath
1958 We're approaching half-time in Zilina with few chances in the closing stages of the half.
1957 So, Seamus Coleman isn't in the Irish squad. Right....
1956 Daniel McDonnell is reporting on Twitter than Kieran Westwood is ill and James McCarthy has a head cold.
1954 The Ireland subs: Forde, Kelly, Long, Fahey, Hunt, Lawrence, Cox.
1951 Wonderful chance for Stoch as he breaks the offside trap and just has the goalkeeper to beat but he loses control of the ball and eventually Russia get it away. 37 minutes gone.
1946 "Can’t concentrate on work waiting for the match to start – going to be a long night. And all this on the eve of a long weekend!"
Duane, Toronto
1943 Russia continue to press against Slovakia but there have been no goals in the first 30 minutes. The home side have offered little so far.
1937 I'm not even going to try to work out that time difference. Meanwhile in Zilina, flares are being ignited by the home fans and Arshavin has lit up the game with a mesmerising run through the Slovakian defence. He beat three players, albeit with a bit of good luck, and Mucha had to rush from goal to make the save.
1936 "Counting down the minutes to kick off here in Canada with the time difference it’s going to be a long night, the rugby starts at 2am. C’mon Ireland"
Damien McCaul
1935 Roman Shirokov forces Mucha into another save and two corner in succession for the away side. With 21 minutes gone they have controlled proceedings so far.
1935 We'll be keeping an eye out for that later.
1934 "Ireland should trounce Andorra tonight. Several players, especially Kevin Doyle, need to be careful with their yellow cards though."
Ronan, Washington DC.
1932 Apparently, Johnny D was left off a list of Irish supporters in Barcelona that appeared earlier. Sorry about that Johnny D.
1931 Igor Denisov's shot is deflected wide and Roman Shirokov is the next to try his luck from the resulting corner, with the midfielder unable to make a decent connection with the ball.
1928 Russia continue to look threatening with a very aggressive formation troubling Slovakia. Arshavin cuts back from the left wing to send a low drive which Mucha gathers.
1927 Donal in San Francisco is looking for an updated table. This should help you Donal.
1926 Pavlyuchenko rounds Mucha in the Slovakia goal. He faces a near impossible angle - think Kanu for Arsenal against Chelsea all those years ago - and the shot is very much off-target. It drifts out for a Slovakia goal kick. The Tottenham forward is looking lively.
1925 Juraj Kucka goes for goal from 25 yards out with Malafeev punching the ball behind for a corner. Russia manage to clear - both sides are enjoying openins now.
1923 "Gonna be listening in live/reading updates from Toronto, hopefully wont lose as much hair as I have done in the last 2 games! Come on Ireland!"
John Madigan
1922 Roman Pavlyuchenko, conqueror of Shamrock Rovers last month, has two opportunites in the space of a minute. The first is a weak shot from 35 yards. The next is at the edge of the area with Mucha gathering easily on the both occasion. That last opportunity was dangerous.
1920 Jendrišek's shot is blocked by Sergei Ignashevich as Slovakia break well in a move started by Liverpool's Martin Skrtel.
1919 Russia have started well in Zilina, pressing Slovakia and throwing numbers forward. No opportunities so far. Remember, the Slovaks have to get a result tonight.
1915 We're underway in Slovakia...
1914 Did you not notice the silence between 1831 and 1851?
1912 "Ireland to win easily three or 4-0 after a nervy opening 20 mins. Slovakia & Russia to draw.
"Armenia is going to be a test on Tuesday but if they can't beat them at home, they've no business going to a major championships.
"Won't see the game live but will be checking in for updates, so no tea breaks for you Rory!"
Stan - Austin, Texas
1907 Around 100 Ireland fans have managed to buy tickets today for the game bringing the capacity in the ground to 1000 or so.
1905 "Here's a stat for ya; Armenia are the only team, along with the world's top three, Spain, Holland and Germany, to score at least three goals in their last three qualifying games."
Kevin Egan
1904 Republic of Ireland team to play Andorra: Shay Given, John O'Shea, Sean St Ledger, Darren O'Dea, Stephen Ward, Damien Duff, Keith Andrews, Glenn Whelan, Aidan McGeady, Kevin Doyle, Robbie Keane.
1902 As a reminder...
1900 We are still waiting on the confirmed teams from Andorra. The substitutes bench is what we're looking out for truthfully with Trap's team already confirmed.
1855 I bet you didn't see that American location coming.
1854 "What a great sporting weekend it is for Ireland. Tonight's game may be tricky, but I expect them to come through.
"But, I can't emphasise how difficult Tuesday's game is going to be. Armenia are so full of confidence now, they will believe they can beat anyone. I hope the guys don't underestimate them. Also, good luck to the boys down under. Go Ireland!"
Ronnie, Tryon, North Carolina
1853 Semshov on the bench for Russia. Weiss and Sebo left in reserve for Slovakia.
1852 Slovakia: Mucha, Pekarik, Skrtel, Durica, Hubocan, Karhan, Hamsik, Stoch, Jendrisek, Kucka, Holosko.
Subs: Pernis, Weiss, Jez, Salata, Zabavnik, Guede, Sebo.
Russia: Malafeev, Aniukov, Vasili Berezutsky, Ignashevich,
Zhirkov, Denisov, Shirokov, Dzagoev, Zyryanov, Arshavin,
Pavlyuchenko.
Subs: Shunin, Pogrebniak, Semshov, Samedov,
Alexei Berezutsky, Glushakov, Shishkin.
Referee: Jonas Eriksson (Sweden)
1851 I bet you didn't know that I went for dinner in the last 21 minutes. Here are the teams from Slovakia v Russia...
1830 Bill O'Herlihy is joined by John Giles, Eamon Dunphy and Liam Brady at 8pm on RTÉ Two and on RTÉ.ie.
1828 Remember there is a special extended Sport At 7 on RTÉ Radio 1 and it is, of course, available online. Con Murphy is joined by Damien Richardson and Kenny Cunningham.
1825 "I think it will be a close game but we should win (we need to win).
"I'll say 3-0 to Ireland but not until the 2nd half. I think Russia will beat Slovakia but hope I'm wrong!
"Won't get to see the game as at work and 4 hours time difference but will be reading."
Conor in Brazil
1814 Thanks to Edward Nesbitt for pointing out that Wes Hoolahan won his first cap in May against Colombia. He should be in the squad in my opinion. Again, perhaps he is not a Trapattoni-type player.
1810 Many of you are e-mailing saying you are looking forward to the substitutions rather than seeing the starting XI! As I said, I don't mind how we get the result tonight. Hunt, Coleman and Long will be very useful subs later on if things don't go our way.
1757 Russia and Slovakia meet at 7:15pm so we will look forward to that one now. A Slovakia win would mean Ireland can go top of the group tonight.
1750 We have new leaders in Group B after a comprehensive win by Armenia against Macedonia. The challenge has been laid down to Ireland, Russia and Slovakia. Armenia will come to Dublin desperate for a win on Tuesday.
Full-time: Armenia 4-1 FYR Macedonia
1747 Artur Sarkisov jinks past the Macedonia goalkeeper Artur Sarkisov for a simple goal to round off a wonderful night for Armenia.
GOAL - ARMENIA - ARTUR SARKISOV
1742 Vance Sikov heads home powerfully from a corner for a consolation goal for Armenia
GOAL – FYR MACEDONIA- VANCE SIKOV
1737 Possibly the strangest comment we will receive all day. Soccer?
1735 "Has Shay Given got the most perfect hairline in soccer? Dracula would be jealous of his dunse.
"On a more serious note, when will Wes Hoolahan get his first cap? (I know the answer is when Trap steps down and the maverick Glenn Hoddle gets the Ireland job). The boy is a joy to watch."
Patrick O'Dea
1733 Artur Sarkisov's strike hits the crossbar as Armenia go in search of a fourth goal.
1725 Yura Movsisyan crosses for Gevorg Ghazaryan to slot home a third goal for Armenia. Armenia are the form team in this group, there is no doubt about that.
GOAL - ARMENIA - GEVORG GHAZARYAN
1718 Armenia are not pushing themselves with Tuesday night in mind. There is a party atmosphere in Yerevan as Marcos Pizzelli is replaced to a fantastic ovation.
1710 The Macedonia captain Sumulikoski is sent off for a second yellow card. He can have no complaints, it was a reckless challenge and Armenia are cruising now.
RED CARD - VELICE SUMULIKOSKI
1706 Henrik Mkhitaryan almost makes it three as he misses a sitter from 10 yards, scuffing the shot wide of the post
1705 "If the game is tight tonight and Trap persists with McGeady on the left and Duff on the right which naturally tightens our shape as they both have to come inside on their preferred foot, I think I will genuinely crack up!! Disappointed that Coleman and Fahey not starting!"
Nigel, Wexford
1700 "I don't remember being this excited about an Ireland group match in a long time. We're still in with a shout of topping the group, which is nice for a change!
"All the lads from The Cold 100 are going over to George Forsyth Jnr's (son of the legendary St.Joseph Boys Football Club President) house for beers and grub! Should be a whopper of a night!
"Prediction: 7-0 to Ireland; Ireland to eventually top the group on goal difference!"
Simon Delaney
1646 Armenia will be thrilled with the two-goal lead at the break. They have been much more clinical than Macedonia in a fairly even half.
Half-time: Armenia 2-0 FYR Macedonia
1644 The half is petering out as Yura Movsisyan skies a free-kick over the bar.
1641 Marvellous hit from Macedonia's Nikolce Noveski, forcing Berezovsky to claw the ball away from a shot from 30 yards out. I think that is the closest Macedonia have come in this half.
1639 Macedonia's Velice Sumulikoski is booked for a late challenge close to the half-way line.
1637 They are having a party in Yerevan in their final match at home in the group and rightfully so. This has been a campaign to remember. The scoreline is a bit harsh on Macedonia as John Toshack looks on wondering how his side are two goals down.
1634 That is a sensational strike from Henrik Mkhitaryan as he cuts across the Macedonia midfield and unleashes a stunning shot from 25 yards that finds the corner of the net. Martin Bogatinov can do nothing at full stretch. Armenia in charge.
GOAL - ARMENIA - HENRIK MKHITARYAN
1630 Macedonia have responded well to the goal as Armenia are forced to deal with pressure from the kick-off. They clear the ball on two occasions and then Macedonia's Mirko Ivanovski is booked for an elbow to Henrik Mkhitaryan.
1628 A goal worthy of this fine game as Henrik Mkhitaryan's brilliant run makes space in the area to cross for Marcos Pizzelli to plant the ball into the net. Armenia will go top of the group as it stands.
GOAL - ARMENIA - MARCOS PIZZELLI
1625 Mirko Ivanovski gets behind the Armenian defender but is forced to stop because of the bounce of the ball. He waits for it to drop to shoot on the half volley but the shot is over the bar.
1623 Marcos Pizzelli sends an angled shot across goal but there is no Armenia forward on the end of it. A Mexcian wave goes around the Yerevan Republican Stadium. It is a massive night for Armenia. A win here would put pressure on the three hopefuls in action tonight.
1622 Muarem's shot will not trouble Roman Berezovsky in the Armenian goal as Macedonia offer another encouraging break.
1619 I've been impressed with Macedonia in the first 20 minutes. They have played some lovely football and John Toshack will be pleased. Muarem's cross from the left is just too high for Filip Ivanovski and the chance from a breakaway is gone.
1615 Mirko Ivanovski is deemed offside after he fails to make a solid connect with a shot 10 yards from goal. The ball drifted wide but the linesman had his flag up anyway.
1613 Artur Edigaryan blazes a shot high and wide as Armenia start to find some rhythm.
1610 Filip Ivanovski is inches away from giving Macedonia the lead as a dangerous cross from the right is just inches away from the forward.
1609 The first chance of the game falls to Movsisyan as he looks up and smacks the post with a stinging shot from the edge of the box.
1606 The home crowd are growing impatient eight minutes into the game. Macedonia continue to dominate possession but they haven't looked like crafting a chance at goal.
1601 Macedonia have made a positive start and have all of the ball. A cautious start from Armenia.
1600 From Robbie Glennon in Barcelona: "Big hello to John Mason, Doylo, Deano, Gary, P Davey, Cork Keogh, Scuba, Darren Doyle. Went to Barca for the match and found out it wasn't on over here. Ireland to beat Wales. It's John Delaney's round."
1555 The atmosphere is electric in Armenia for what is a huge game for the country. It is not every campaign they have a chance of qualifying. I wonder will nerves get to some of their players.
1545 "I could be blamed for being over confident but I will be interested when/if we go 2-3 goals up who Trapatoni takes off and even more interested to see who he brings on.
"The question is will McCarthy, Fahey, Coleman or any of the other squad members get some game time."
Kieran in Limerick (not very excited to be honest about tonight)
1534 Armenia: Berezovsky, Hayrapetyan, Aleksanyan, Hovsepyan, Yuspashyan, Mkhitaryan, Mkrtchyan, Artur Edigaryan, Pizelli, Ghazaryan, Movsisyan.
Subs: Petrosyan, Malakyan, Sarkisov,Haroyan, Artak Edigaryan, Badoyan, Manucharyan.
FYR Macedonia: Bogatinov, Sikov, Popov, Noveski, Georgievski, Sumulikoski, Demiri, Muarem, Trickovski, Filip Ivanovski, Mirko Ivanovski.
Subs: Pacovski, Mitreski, Gjurovski, Grozdanovski, Lazarevski, Mojsov, Lazevski.
Referee: Robert Schorgenhofer (Austria)
1530 I wonder can our old friends Macedonia do us a favour against Armenia to know them out of contention. That game is at 4pm. Updates here.
1525 Where is the confidence Niall? If we can't beat Andorra and Armenia, we do not deserve a play-off spot!
1522 "Three points are a must tonight but I'm still unsure as to what the best outcome in Slovakia tonight could be!
A Slovak win keeps us in the hunt for top spot but means that we will then need to beat the Armenians to be sure of a play-off spot!"
Niall Kilmurray
1517 "Disappointed Trap went with Whelan. He's solid but we need as much creativity as we can get against a side like Armenia to kill off the game early."
Chris Connolly
1510 From RTÉ's Adrian Eames in Andorra on Twitter: "All set in Andorra. Small ground - different but brilliant setting".
1506 What do you make of Giovanni Trapattoni's selection tonight and the midfield pairing of Whelan and Andrews against a team like this?
1505 And that will be the last reference to rugby on this page today.
I am not prepared to be cynical yet. The weaker nations can be hard to beat and I don't care how we do it tonight. The result is all that matters.
1500 This should set for the tone for the day. Pure, brilliant, negativity.
"What a boring game tonight will be. One team that dont want the ball and another team that can't keep it. Garryowens all night I reckon."
Daryl Foy
1445 It is a pivotal day in Ireland's Euro 2012 qualifying group with Giovanni Trapattoni's men in Andorra for their penultimate match in the campaign.
Armenia take on Macedonia at 4pm and later this evening Slovakia host Russia. We'll bring you every piece of action with our live text over the next eight hours.
