Sporting Fingal are the latest Airtricity League club to reveal serious financial problems after they confirmed that they have been unable to pay their players' wage bill.
Despite having, what an official statement called 'a viable business plan on a reduced and prudent scale', the North Dublin side has failed to pay its players for the first time.
The statement blamed the current situation on 'a number of commitments which would be crucial to its viability have, in very recent days, not materialised'.
Since finishing in fourth place last season and qualifying for the Europa League, Sporting Fingal have seen many of their top players depart without being replaced as rumours about their plight circulate.
The club have agreed a deal to play in Dalymount Park for the 2011/12 season and are due to take part in the Setanta Cup, but they have yet to confirm whether they will be in a position to do so.
However the club statement did confirm that 'the FAI and the players’ union, PFAI, have been informed of the situation.'
