Robbie Keane has accused Birmingham City of looking for publicity and claims a move to St Andrew’s was never on the cards for the Republic of Ireland striker.
Birmingham said on Monday that they were no longer interested in signing Keane, stating that it 'would not be in the best financial interests of the club' to pursue the deal.
Keane told Sky Sports News as he was leaving the Tottenham Hotspur training ground: ‘The Birmingham thing was never on, so what was said yesterday was strange to see.’
‘The Birmingham stuff was bizarre, the statement from them which I found strange.
‘A deal was never really on the table. Maybe Birmingham were looking for a bit of publicity.’
Keane said he will wait to see what happens in the remainder of the transfer window:
‘There is nothing yet. We will see what happens. There is a couple of weeks yet. I am not sure and we will find out.’
