Sheffield United could be set to make another signing from the League of Ireland with Galway United defender Seamus Conneely set to spend another week on trial with the Championship club.
Having already captured St Patrick’s Athletic’s Dave McAllister earlier this month, the Blades are running the rule over Conneely, with a move a potential saviour for Galway as they aim to pay off their footballing debts accumulated over the 2010 season.
Sheffield United manager Gary Speed told his club’s official website www.sufc.co.uk: ‘We had him (Conneely) training with us last week and hopefully again next week so we can monitor him closely.
‘At 22 he will need to be competing for a first team place but a lot of good lads have come over from the League of Ireland in recent years and done well, Kevin Doyle and Shane Long for instance at Reading.’
Conneely has several caps at youth level for the Republic of Ireland, including under-21 appearances.
