The Republic of Ireland U-17 Women's team are out of the World Cup after losing to Japan

2am Tough luck on Ireland but in truth the Japanese deserved their victory and they will now face North Korea in the semi-finals.

Thanks for staying with us tonight, folks, and apologies once more for the interruption of the live video service for a period during the second half.

I'm going to leave the last word to Paddy from Naas who has emailed to say:

'Excellent effort by a great team of youngsters. Unfortunately they faced a very good Japanese team. Nonetheless, they performed very well and they did Ireland proud.'

Well said, Paddy. Goodnight to you all.

THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND WOMEN'S UNDER-17s ARE ELIMINATED FROM THE WORLD CUP AT THE QUARTER-FINAL STAGE

90+1 Long throw into the Japanese box is headed on but Rianna Jarrett's header goes high over the Japanese crossbar. Is it game over for Noel King's girls?

90 mins There'll be four minutes of added time.

85 mins Free-kick by Japan is palmed away for a corner by Moloney. The corner comes to nothing but Japan are pushing for a third.

81 mins Oh what a chance for Ireland! Rianna Jarrett crosses for Stacie Donnelly about three yards out. She can't miss, can she? She can. The Japanese keeper smothers Donnelly's tame shot and it's a great chance wasted.

80 mins The latest stats show Japan have had 51% of the possession to Ireland's 49. Couldn't be closer. Well, it could. But it's the scoreboard that counts. And right now it's not making good reading for Ireland. Ten minutes left.

72 mins Apologies that these text updates have been very sporadic for the last twenty minutes. Restoring the live video feed became the priority, obviously. Apologies once again for the interruption in service. Hopefully you can all see the feed properly once again now. Ireland have just over 15 minutes to rescue this game.

66 mins Goal for Japan - Yokoyama puts the Japanese back in front.

0120 The live video feed should be back up and running folks. If the link at the top of this page is not working for you after you manually refresh it, go to www.rte.ie/live and try it from there. Apologies once again. It's still 1-1.

54 mins GOAL FOR IRELAND!

Denise O'Sullivan equalises for Ireland after a dreadful mix-up in the Japanese defence.

We are currently having difficulties with the live stream. We're trying to fix it as I type so hopefully it'll be back up very soon. Sincere apologies, folks.

52 mins Another free to Ireland, same result. Jessica Gleeson sends it 'high, wide and handsome', to quote RTÉ's commentator John Kenny.

50 mins Free to Ireland and Megan Campbell tries her luck from distance. Well wide.

0100 Back underway in Trinidad. No changes on the Irish team.

0055 Lots of you emailing to complain about the penalty. I agree. It looked a very harsh decision. Hopefully it won't be the defining decision of this match.

Half-time. Ireland trail to that 34th-minute penalty. In truth, Japan deserve to be in front. So hopefully we'll see an improved performance in the second half from Ireland.

43 mins Apologies in advance but here is the most cliched insight you'll ever read: industrious work by the Japanese. It's true, though. They are keeping the pressure on the Irish girls and Noel King's team will be glad to get to the dressing room at half-time just one behind.

41 mins Let-off for Ireland. Moloney comes to the rescue with an important block from Yokoyama.

40 mins Good link-up play by the Japanese ends with a Kawashima shot which is blocked for a corner, which comes to nothing. Japan are on top though, make no mistake about it.

34 mins Japan lead. Hikaru Naomoto coolly strokes the penalty beyond the reach of Grace Moloney. The penalty was awarded after Megan Campbell's tackle from behind on Yokoyama. Looked harsh, and Campbell looked very upset at the decision. A bad blow for Ireland.

32 mins PENALTY TO JAPAN

29 mins Free to Ireland, about 35 yards out. Megan Campbell has a go but it doesn't trouble Hirao. Japan then break quickly but Nakada's skews her shot harmlessly wide.

0027 Some people have been enquiring as to why they can't watch the game live on our site. It's because we only have rights to stream the game in the Republic of Ireland only, so if you're outside of that territory unfortunately you will not be able to watch our stream. Sorry folks, but we have to comply with copyright restrictions.

22 mins Better from Ireland, and a dipping volley from Denise O'Sullivan brings a save from Hirao.

19 mins Siobhan Killeen has a shot from distance but it lacks any power to trouble the Japanese keeper. It's a momentary break from what is starting to become consistent pressure from Japan.

18 mins Yokoyama is dangerous. She advances to the edge of the Irish box and attempts to curl a right-footed shot to the far post. It goes wide, but Ireland have been warned.

17 mins Decent effort by Japan's Yokoyama, well saved by Grace Moloney.

0014 I know there are lots of you outside the Republic of Ireland who cannot watch our live feed but check out http://fifa2.feedroom.com/. Thanks to emailer Paul Stokes for that.

9 mins Corner to Ireland. Aileen Gilroy swings it in and the Japanese keeper Hirao flaps at it. The Japanese eventually clear.

7 mins Little to report so far. No chances for either side yet. Ireland are seeing plenty of the ball though.

0000 The clock has struck midnight, and we're underway at the Larry Gomes stadium in Trinidad. Come on Ireland!

2335 First things first: Ireland's Katie Taylor is into the final of the 60kg at the Women's World Boxing Championship after an epic fight against Queen Underwood. Now, let's see if the Irish girls can do it. The live stream starts at 11.55pm for users in the Republic of Ireland. I'll have live text updates here.
