Shamrock Rovers return to Oriel Park tonight, the venue of their last Airtricity Premier Division defeat, looking to take another step closer to winning the title.

Since that match Rovers have remained unbeaten and moved 10 points clear of St Patrick’s Athletic last Friday night with a 3-1 victory in Richmond Park.

Bohemians are their only realistic challengers now, with the 2009 champions seven adrift of Michael O’Neill’s side.

Ian Foster’s side recorded a much-needed win over rivals Drogheda United in Hunky Dorys Park three days ago.

Dundalk may have to cope without Liam Burns after the defender missed the win with injury.

The Lilywhites otherwise have a strong squad to choose from.

The Hoops have doubts about Robert Bayly and Dan Murray, who both have knee injuries.

Pat Sullivan (knee) remains out, although Pat Flynn is back in the squad after serving his suspension.

Rovers boss O’Neill was pleased with the character of his players against Pat’s last Friday.

He said: ‘It was a very difficult game as we knew it would be. We gave ourselves a mountain to climb by giving away a goal so early in the game.

‘However we did very well getting that goal before half-time, and it turned out to be an accomplished performance and a great win.’

O’Neill is targeting another victory for his in-form side.

He added: ‘The last game we lost this season was away to Dundalk, so we’ll be looking to ensure that does not happen again.

‘We didn’t play very well that night, but we have gone on to have a great unbeaten run since then.

‘We will be going into this game looking for a win.’
