UCD welcome Drogheda United to the UCD Bowl tonight in a relegation six-pointer, kick-off 7.45pm.
Drogheda are on a dreadful run of form having lost their last six league games, leaving them just five points clear of basement side Bray Wanderers and a distant 14 points from safety.
United will be without midfielder Brendan McGill and defender Jamie Harris, as both players are currently injured. Former Shamrock Rovers full-back Corie Treacy is also absent through suspension.
UCD’s form guide does not make pretty reading either, with the Students taking just four points from their last six league outings. And the Belfield-based side’s morale will not have been helped any by the cup defeat to Bray last Friday.
The visitors are just two points adrift of Galway United and so defeat would not necessarily be the end of the world for them. However, three points are imperative for Drogheda if they are to harbour any realistic chance of avoiding the relegation/promotion play-offs.
Drogheda United assistant manager Darius Kierans is hoping his side can put a rare tick in the win column.
‘UCD are on a bad run at the moment so something has got to give tomorrow night and hopefully it will go in our favour,’ he said.
