If you are travelling, holidaying or living in Europe during the World Cup you can access all of RTÉ’s World Cup coverage through the Eurovisionsports.tv 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa Portal at www.eurovisionsports.tv/fifaworldcup.
The portal will show simulcast coverage from a wide range of EBU Members and FIFA HB feeds. In addition a HD Channel will show a selection of matches at higher definition and bandwidth for an enhanced viewing experience online.
Access to the platform is free for users.
RTÉ has the rights to stream its World Cup coverage within the Republic of Ireland only.
Users of the Eurovision portal will not be able to access the TV coverage of the host broadcaster of the country in which they are located.
For example, if you are in the Republic of Ireland, you will only be able to access RTÉ’s World Cup coverage via the RTÉ website. But you can access the coverage of all other EBU members via the Eurovision portal.
Similarly, if you are in Austria, you will not be able to access Austrian coverage of the World Cup, but you can access RTÉ’s coverage via the Eurovision portal.
Eurovision Portal Features
The Eurovision video portal provides a simple video experience for the audience; a quick connection to live video and an easy to use application interface.
On arriving on the website, viewers will see Match tiles of video content in the first video channel.
During the Match time, live video will begin to play automatically as soon as the website is loaded.
At any time viewers can switch to a different live feed or video on demand clips using the Channels Navigator.
A Search function provides viewers an easy way to find video using keywords such as “TSR” or “Messi”.
EBU Broadcaster simulcast feeds are grouped into channels (12) and will be live throughout the FIFA World Cup™.
Viewers can click the Programme Guide to see which Matches play when.
All videos are displayed in a frame size of 640x360 and encoded at approximately 700kbps, suitable for most broadband Internet connections. Viewers have the option to “full screen” the video window at any time.
Using Flash live and video on demand streaming the application is accessible by a majority of users across Windows PC and OSX MAC platforms using common browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari and Chrome.
An application help module provides viewers with assistance in case of technical problems with video playback.
Each Member tile provides a link back to the Members own website.
The FIFA HB feeds will include links to social media sites Facebook, Twitter and FIFA.com
