Clint Dempsey in action for the USA in the 2009 Confederations Cup final against Brazil

Coach: Bob Bradley

Key Player: Clint Dempsey

World Cup Record: Eight World Cup appearances

World Ranking: 14

Group C Schedule:
12 June – England v USA
18 June – Slovenia v USA
23 June – USA v Algeria

Where to play the two best players? Both Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey have been used frequently in midfield roles by Bob Bradley. But the US coach is short of quality attacking options and perhaps needs more defensive steel in his midfield, and so the option to play a 'Double D' strike force will be tempting.

If Stuart Holden is match-fit after his spell injured, then he could surprise many people with his energy and class on the right flank which have prompted comparisons with a young David Beckham.

It would not be a surprise if the Americans were to emerge from their group, and a quarter-final berth is not beyond them either.

Final Squad:

Goalkeepers: Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Marcus Hahnemann (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Tim Howard (Everton)

Defenders: Carlos Bocanegra (Stade Rennais), Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96), Jay Demerit (Watford), Clarence Goodson (IK Start), Oguchi Onyewu (AC Milan), Jonathan Spector (West Ham), DaMarcus Beasley (Rangers),

Midfielders: Michael Bradley (Borussia Monchengladbach), Ricardo Clark (Eintracht Frankfurt), Clint Dempsey (Fulham), Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy), Maurice Edu (Rangers), Benny Feilhaber (AGF Aarhus) Stuart Holden (Bolton), Jose Torres (Pachuca)
