UCD taught Bray a real lesson as they climbed to fifth with a record Premier Division win.
The good times rolled for Martin Russell’s young guns as they extended their unbeaten run to five games.
Despite Wanderers having the better of the opening period, they
trailed at the break having conceded in the 44th minute.
After a passing move involving several players, Greg Bolger’s ricochet fell kindly to Chris Mulhall. He slipped in David McMillan who slide a close range shot low past Brian Kane.
Amazingly, it was the Student’s first away goal since the opening day of the season when defeating Drogheda - run that stretched to 404 minutes.
They didn’t have to wait as long for their next scores as it arrived
just three minutes into the second period. David McMillan’s lay-off saw Paul Corry play a superb reverse through ball for the striker to race onto along the left wing.
His end-line cross picked out the run of the unmarked Greg Bolger to register his third of the league campaign with a half volleyed finish from six-yards.
Eddie Gormley sprung both Shane O’Neill and Richie Baker from the bench in response. But they barely been on the pitch as the away side plundered two quick fire goals in the space of a minute.
McMillan’s nod down set-up Bolger to astutely lob a stranded Kane with a precise 20-yard chip. Bray had barely restarted when referee Dave McKeon did well to play advantage for Colm Tresson’s foul on Mulhall.
Dwayne Wilson’s surging run and deflected cross form the right was only helped into his own net by the despairing Kane. It got even better for UCD in the 67th minute. Wilson’s mazy run set
up Mulhall. His shot was cleared by the covering Shane O’Connor and rebounded off David McMillan to the net.
Then in the 73rd minute, sub Peter McMahon challenged Kane after a short corner. The ball bounced to Evan McMillan who headed into an open goal.
After their 1-0 success over St. Pat’s, the ‘College were forced into
two changes. Top-scorer Ciaran Kilduff was ruled out through concussion while Brian Shortall dropped to the bench.
As for Wanderers, they retained the same starting 11 who succumbed in midweek to Sporting Fingal.
The Seagulls almost go off to a flier. Robbie Doyle chased down David Tyrrell’s lofted pass down the left channel after just 100 seconds. And hit a stunning 20-yard volley on the turn that Billy Brennan brilliantly tipped over his bar.
From Tyrrell’s corner that followed, Doyle’s back post header was
blocked on the line by Brennan and then hacked clear
The visitors went close with their first real attack in the 13th
minute. Dwayne Wilson shrugged off the attentions of Dane Massey along the right flank to send in a low cross that David McMillan just failed to get a touch to.
Doyle’s personal battle with Brennan continued soon after. The striker dug the ball from his feet to shot form 20-yard with the keeper scrambling across to tip the effort around his upright.
Then at the other end, Greg Bolger’s driven attempt from 15-yards was blocked well by defender David Webster.
