Rants, raves and opinions welcome to sportonline@rte.ie.

9.44pm Inter were just rock-solid at the back and Barca could not find a way through all night. This was a triumph for defensive football, but, honestly, a nightmare for fans of entertaining sport. However, such is the nature of the sport and life. Hats off to Mourinho - he nullified what many have called the greatest team of this generation.

That's it for tonight. Join us tomorrow for live updates from Liverpool's Europa League semi-final second leg tie against Atletico Madrid at Anfield.

9.41pm Mourinho runs onto the pitch to celebrate like a giddy schoolboy, as the Inter players go wild on the Camp Nou pitch. The Barcelona linesmen clearly aren't happy with the result as they turn on the sprinkling system to drench the Inter stars and give them an early shower!

FULL-TIME: Barcelona 1-0 Inter Milan (agg 2-3)

90+4 mins The ball is played back to Alves, his ball, as was the case all night, is poor. With that the referee blows his whistle for full-time. Barcelona's reign as European champions is over.

90+4 mins Alves crosses, Maicon puts it out for a throw. Last attack from Barca. Samuel puts it out for a corner.

90+1 mins The ball is the Inter net from Bojan! But, the referee calls the game back for a handball from Keita. Vey harsh, the ball struck his hand which was beside his body.

90 mins Xavi attacks. He feeds Pedro, who beats Muntari, Barca win a corner. Lucio clears the attack from the corner.

89 mins Messi feeds Alvez the ball on the edge of the Inter box, and is taken down. George Hamilton screams penalty, but it isn't given.

87 mins Xavi drills in a shot from 30 yards, César punches it away.

87 mins Barca must score again. If they do, they reach the final. If they don't, they are out.

86 mins Mariga is on for Eto'o. Mariga is the first Kenyan I've seen play in the Champions League.

83 mins GOAL: Barcelona 1-0 Inter Milan (agg 2-3)

Messi plays the ball to Xavi on the edge of the box. Xavi slips it through to Pique. The centre back runs at César, then turns as the keeper dives, the goal is open and he buries it. The Camp Nou goes wild. Game on.

82 mins Messi chips into the box and for the first time in the game Barca beat the Inter defence. Bojan skips into the box and places his header just wide. Glorious chance - it should have been 1-0.

81 mins D Milito is off for Inter. Iván Cordoba takes his place on the right hand side.

80 mins A masterclass in defending here. Barca just can't cope with it.

78 mins Jeffrén puts a very dangerous ball into the box, but the Inter defence just about deals with it. The ball is played downfield. Inter are doing nothing at all to attack, so much so that Barca's keeper Valdes comes to halfway to play the ball.

76 mins Zanetti is tucking in as an extra defender. Muntari is almost playing as a fourth centre-back.

75 mins Alves crosses, it takes a deflection and it's a corner to Barcelona. Cleared again.

74 mins Pedro tries to cross from the right again, but there are eight Inter defenders and, once more, the ball is cleared.

73 mins This is classic defensive football from Inter - the very type of football that wins games and bores people to death.

72 mins Corner to Inter. Jeffrén nudged the ball away from Maicon and over the line. Milito takes it, free-out as Inter are pushing in the penalty area.

71 mins The pace has gone out of the game and Barca, incredibly, look a little bereft of ideas.

70 mins Alves crosses again, but Lucio heads clear. He has been awesome tonight, no cross can get past him.

70 mins Alvez has yet another cross beaten out by the Inter backline.

69 mins Muntari to D Milito, Alves gets in a foot to put the ball out.

66 mins Pedro fouls Eto'o - running into the back of the Cameroon striker. Inter's Muntari is on for Sneijder.

65 mins Pedro crosses from the right, it doesn't beat the first man - who is Chivu, who puts it out for a corner.

65 mins Mourinho is reprimanded for leaving his technical area.

64 mins That's all of Barca's substitutes used - which means Thierry Henry will not play tonight.

63 mins Bojan is on for Ibrahimovic. Jeffrén is on for Busquets.

62 mins Messi breaks into the penalty area and plays a two-one with Ibrahimovic and is then edged out by Chivu.

61 mins It's all Barcelona. Pedro shoots from 30 yards out. Poor shot and wide. Barca just cannot break down the 10-men of Inter.

59 mins Alves cross from the right, Keita is there, but Maicon gets a foot in and it should be a corner, but the ref gives a goal-kick.

58 mins Pique plays a crossfield pass to Alves - for the second time this half, he is adjudged to be offside.

57 mins Toure is set up by Maxwell 40 yards from goal. He shoots and it is awful - high, wide and ugly.

57 mins Maxwell drills a cross way, way over the bar.

56 mins Pedro attempts to play a one-two with Ibrahimovic, Maicon gets a foot to the ball and takes the pace off it, critical intercept from Maicon.

55 mins Corner to Barca: Xavi takes it, Lucio gets a good head to it and clears the danger.

53 mins Ibrahimovic tumbles in the box, the ref waves play on.

52 mins Alves crosses from the right touchline. Ibrahimovic attempts a flying backheel! Unsurprisingly it doesn't work.

51 mins Pique attempts to play Ibrahimovic through, but the latter doesn't anticipate the pass and the ball rolls through to César.

50 mins Pedro crosses from the left wing, but there are no Barca shirts in the Inter area to get a head to it. Cleared by Inter.

49 mins Xavi plays a similar ball to Keita, but he can't control it and the ball rolls to César.

48 mins Xavi puts a ball over the top toward Alves - the Brazilian is offside.

47 mins Free to Inter. Chivu shoots directly from 45 yards out. Rubbish effort.

46 mins Inter tip-off in Camp Nou.

8.49pm Maxwell is on for G Milito at half-time.

8.48pm One can only hope - for the sake of attacking football - that Barca bag an early goal to shake up the tie.

8.46pm It's hard to remember a team who have parked the bus more than Inter have done tonight; such a defensive performance. I suppose we should have expected as much from Inter. To be fair, attacking Barca with a two-goal lead could only be classified as insanity.

HALF-TIME: Barcelona 0-0 Inter Milan (agg 1-3)

45+2 mins Two minutes of injury time and the referee blows for the interval.

45+1 mins Busquets is clipped by Chivu. Free to Barca. Samuel clears from the box for Inter. It falls to Toure - he lashes at it from miles out and it almost hits the corner flag!

44 mins Free as a result 30 yards out. Ibrahimovic hits it sweetly - it is about a half-metre wide.

42 mins YELLOW CARD: Messi breaks down the middle of the pitch in the Inter half. Chivu scythes him down. Shocking tackle.

41 mins Messi fouls Chivu in a 50-50 heading situation.

40 mins Messi gets hold of a long-ball and tees up Ibrahimovic. The big Swede gets in a shot, but it's blocked down - by Samuel I think.

38 mins Messi tries to pass to Pedro on the edge of the box. Cambiasso intercepts and plays it out to Sneijder. Barca are finding it very hard to pick holes in the defence.

36 mins Messi feeds Pedro on the left wing. Pedro slips the ball through for Keita in the box, but the Malian international can only turn the ball over the line for a goal-kick.

35 mins YELLOW CARD: From a free-kick out for Inter, César is booked for time-wasting.

33 mins Messi cuts in from the right wing and beats two Inter defenders to get a shot in. It's heading for the bottom right-hand corner, but César gets a hand to it. Amazing save.

31 mins From a fan's perspective that sending off could be good for the match. Inter have been like the Great Wall of China so far. A few gaps might appear now.

30 mins There was a WWE-style Royal Rumble after that sending off. Mourinho almost jumped on the referee!

28 mins RED CARD: Thiago Mottta pushes Busquets in the face and the Barca man goes down like a sack of spuds. De Bleeckere sends him off. Silly hand in the face from Motta.

27 mins Inter break from their half through Eto'o. He is fouled by Pedro. YELLOW CARD for the Barca man.

26mins The ref gives offside from a ball chipped into the box from the corner. Free-out to Barca.

25 mins Inter break: Sneijder chips a ball to the far post from the left, Eto'o can't take it down and Pedro puts it out for an Inter corner.

24 mins That was a let-off for Inter. Best chance of the match so far.

23 mins Alves crosses into the box, the ball reaches Pedro and it just bounces before he shoots - his effort is decent but just wide.

21 mins Messi slides the ball through the Inter defence for Pedro, but Cesar comes out of his goal to claim. Moments later Alves crosses to Ibrahimovic who chests down to Xavi in the box. He can't sort out his feet and the chance vanishes.

19 mins Xaxi turns away from Motta and into space, he has a clear shot at goal, but tries to slip the pass through to Messi - it is cut out. Wrong option there.

19 mins Ibrahimovic handles the ball from a long-ball into the box. Free-out to Inter.

18 mins Zanetti and Samuel clear a Barca attack. The Spanish side are trying to pass their way through several bodies, but it just aint working right now.

17 mins D Milito is caught offside from a Zanetti through-ball.

16 mins Pique fouls D Milito. Free to Inter in the Barca half. First time I can remember Inter being in that part of the pitch. The resulting free-kick ends up in Valdes' arms.

16 mins Barca are probing Inter here without making any real headway into the blue and black wall that Inter have constructed.

15 mins Pedro cross from the left - headed out by Samuel.

14 mins Alvez attempts to lob the ball over the Inter defence to Messi - the ball is cut out.

13 mins Inter are parking the bus at present. 0-0 is fine for them and they are going to play for it by the looks of things.

12 mins Barcelona's central defenders Pique and Milito are taking the ball out of the box regularly. Very attack minded from Barca.

11 mins Ibrahimovic fouls an Inter defender in the box from the cross and it's a free out to Inter.

10 mins YELLOW CARD: Alvez drives in off the right wing and Motta hauls him down. The Inter midfield man is booked.

9 mins Motta now fouls Messi. Another free.

8 mins Messi is floored by Cambiasso, free to Barca.

7 mins Pique plays a long ball to Ibrahimovic, but Samuel gets in the way and puts it out. However, the ref has given a goal-kick - wrong decision.

6 mins Pique brings the ball forward and lays it off to Keita. Barca are passing in short triangles. Ibrahimovic attempts to cross into the box, but it is too long and comes to nothing.

5 mins Corner Barca. Xavi takes it. It's cleared, but Barca attack again. A poor ball forward is cut out by Zanetti.

4 mins All Barca so far. They are passing it around with patience, while Inter sit back and wait.

3 mins Toure drives forward and sets up Pedro on the left. He cuts inside Maicon and flashes a shot wide. Close stuff!

2 mins Handball by Zanetti. Free-kick to Barca on the edge of the Inter box. Xavi to take it. He whips it in to the box, the ball is cleared and G Milito puts it out for a goalkick.

1 min We're off. Barca kick-off.

7.45pm Late change to the team's, Inter's Christian Chivu is in for Goran Pandeev.

7.45pm The teams are out on the pitch and the pennants exchanged.

7.42pm Gabriel Milito (Barcelona) v Diego Milito (Inter Milan): the first brothers to play against each other in Champions League history. Another side-battle to a succulent encounter.

7.40pm The stadium has just flashed up on screen and woah it looks amazing. Jammed pack and covered in claret and blue.

7.39pm I reckon Ronnie Whelan may have paid a trip to Louis Copeland's this week. He's looking very 'Pep Guardiola' in a grey suit!

7.37pm Ed Leahy opposite me predicts Inter to go through: 2-1 to Barcelona or a 2-2 draw on the night.

7.34pm The RTÉ panel are really laying into the Barca defence. A bit harsh I think. Yes, the defence is no George Graham style wall, but they are still top of La Liga, let's face facts!

7.29pm Inter are unchanged from the first leg. Barca have made two changes - both enforced. Suspended Puyol is replaced by Yaya Toure, while Maxwell loses out to Gabriel Milito.

7.23pm The highlights of last night's Lyon v Bayern Munich tie are being shown on RTÉ. Everyone seems to be writing Bayern off regardless of who they meet in the final. Surely that is premature - Bastian Schweinsteiger, Arjen Robben and Ivica Olic are a dangrous trio for any defence to handle. Plus, German teams always play well in finals.

7.16pm The teams are in:

Barcelona: Valdes, Dani Alves, Pique, Milito, Keita, Xavi, Toure Yaya, Busquets, Pedro, Ibrahimovic, Messi.
Subs: Pinto, Marquez, Bojan, Henry, Maxwell, Thiago, Jeffren.

Inter Milan: Julio Cesar, Maicon, Lucio, Samuel, Zanetti, Cambiasso, Motta, Eto'o, Sneijder, Pandev, Milito.
Subs: Toldo, Cordoba, Muntari, Mariga, Materazzi, Chivu, Balotelli.

Referee: Frank De Bleeckere (Belgium).

7.12pm RTÉ Sport commentator Adrian Eames feels Inter will go through. I've just passed him in the corridor and he reckons it could finish 1-0 to Barcelona, 3-2 to Inter on aggregate.

7.12pm The talk in the RTÉ studio is that Barca are like the Harlem Globetrotters - all style and no substance. Only time will tell if they are being too harsh, or if Barca can match the steel and graft of José's Inter.

5.35pm The eagerly-awaited semi-final second leg is here. The tie is delicately poised and could go either way - this is the kind of game European football purists can only dream of. We'll be here from 7pm onwards to bring you blow-by-blow updates on all the action from Catalunya.

Preview:

Barcelona v Inter Milan: two of the most glamorous names in European football. The semi-final first leg tie produced a superb encounter, most notable for Internazionale’s decisive man-marking of Barca’s star-man Lionel Messi. Jose Mourinho’s charges effectively nullified the diminutive Argentine’s potency – thanks to superb performances from Walter Samuel and Lucio in the heart of defence and Javier Zanetti in midfield.

The million dollar question is whether or not Mourinho and co can manage a similar feat in tonight’s encounter at the Camp Nou. On instinct one would imagine Barcelona are guaranteed to score at home. The more difficult questions to provide answers to are: how may they can score against a stubborn and tenacious Inter defence; and can Barca’s sometimes less-than-watertight defence hold out the pace of Samuel Eto’o and the Dutch trickery of Wesley Sneijder.

Carles Puyol is suspended at the back for Barca and without his talismanic presence Barca could struggle for leadership at the rear. Puyol’s loss is further compounded by Eric Abidal failing a late fitness test for the Catalan giants.

Inter Milan have won their last six Champions League encounters. In those six clashes they have conceded just two goals. That mean defence may be the key to cancelling out Barca's flowing attacking movement in Spain.

History tells us Inter struggle at Camp Nou. In four meetings at the HQ of Catalan football the Italian side have been beaten three times, only once returning to Italy victorious. That solitary victory came in the 1970 Fairs Cup third round - Inter won 2-1.

Master tactician Mourinho will be eager to improve that record.

Head-to-head record:

Played: 9.

Wins: Barcelona 4, Inter 2. Draws: 3.

Goals: Barcelona 16, Inter 8.
