The father of England footballer John Terry has been charged with dealing cocaine, sources said on Saturday.

Ted Terry, 55, is due to appear in court next month accused of supplying a class A drug.

An Essex police spokeswoman said: 'A 55-year-old man from Chafford Hundred has been charged with supply of cocaine, a class A drug, and has been bailed to appear before Basildon magistrates on 13 May.'

Terry was arrested following an alleged incident at a wine bar in Chafford Hundred, Essex in November.

Earlier this year John Terry was accused of having an affair with lingerie model Vanessa Perroncel, the ex-partner of England team-mate Wayne Bridge.

In the wake of the allegations the 29-year-old was stripped of the England captaincy.
