Pompey will remain in FA Cup

Portsmouth's administrator Andrew Andronikou has said he has been reassured by the Football Association there is no chance of the club being kicked out of the FA Cup.

FA rules say that any club who goes into administration will have their ongoing participation in the competition reassessed.

Andronikou has had conversations with the FA and says there is no chance of Pompey being excluded - they are in the semi-final and will play the winner of the quarter-final replay between Tottenham and Fulham.

He told Press Association Sport: ‘The FA are fully supportive of us and they want us to succeed and get to the other end.

‘There is no chance of us being kicked out of the FA Cup.’

However if Portsmouth get to the final they are likely to be denied qualification for the Europa League due to their financial situation.

The club did not apply for the required UEFA club licence for next year by the 1 March deadline and though they can submit a retrospective application, their current financial status means it is unlikely that a licence would be granted by European football's governing body.

Andronikou, however, is refusing to rule out the prospect.

He added: ‘Let's get into Europe first and then worry about the club licence.’
