Shamrock Rovers have confirmed that striker Tadhg Purcell has left the Tallaght club by mutual agreement.

Purcell joined Rovers from Kilkenny City, following former manager Pat Scully to the Hoops in 2006, helping them to the First Division title and promotion at the first time of trying.

The Dundrum native has struggled to force his way into the first team under current manager Michael O’Neill and is now free to explore other options.

A statement from Rovers read: 'The club would like to thank Tadhg for his efforts during his almost four-year spell with the club, and wish him all the best for his future career.'

A statement released by the PFAI, read: 'The PFAI would like to confirm that Tadhg Purcell has mutually cancelled his employment contract with Shamrock Rovers Football Club.

'Tadhg would like to thank the fans of Shamrock Rovers for all their support and wish the team and the club every success in the future.'
