Scotland 0-0 Holland

N Ireland 0-1 Slovakia

England 2-0 Croatia

20.17 Stan Petrov goes so close for Bulgaria, the ball may have crossed the line but Buffon pulled off an amazing save.

20.15 Great news for France as Romania go one up against Austria. The French are struggling and they face top of the table Serbia. It is 0-0 as things stand.

7.59pm Italy go close in the big one in our group. Gilardinho I believe. It is still 0-0 with eight minutes gone. Berbatov and Petrov looked to link up a few seconds ago and the Italian defence looked as if it had a couple of gaps in it.

GOAL John Arne Riise scores his second goal in as many games. Looks like Norway will pick up three points. The atmosphere in Hampden Park is incredible, meanwhile.

Norway 2-0 Macedonia

Scotland 0-0 Holland

7.56pm Lichtenstein are holding Finland to 0-0 after 70 minutes. Great night for the smaller nations so far. Apart from San Marino, sorry lads.

7.16pm That was the Faroe Island's first World Cup qualifier win since 2001.

GOAL Tomas Hubschman makes it five for the Czech Republic. Czech Republic 5-0 San Marino

GOAL Tomas Danilevicius levels things up on 23 minutes for Lithuania. Faroe Islands 1-1 Lithuania.

5.35pm Peter Day pretty much ends debate on the best result possible for the Boys in Green tonight.

'People should be careful what they wish for an thing this thing through. We would gain very little, and would actually be in very serious trouble in the group should Bulgaria win tonight.

Assuming likely victories in their remaining other games, Ireland would be left needing to win both their remaining games to avoid going out in third place.

Ironically, winning those games would also put us top of the group.

Second place would disappear as an option for both Ireland and Italy if Bulgaria win tonight.

A draw tonight provides us with the exact same requirement to top the group, except we would be very hot favourites to grab second place should we fail to win our remaining two games.

A win for Italy tonight provides us with almost the same opportunity to come second as would a draw, but it probably takes Italy out of reach in terms of topping the group.

Make no mistake about it!

We want a draw first, an Italy win second, while a Bulgaria win could spell disaster for Ireland in terms of qualification.'

There you have it.....

GOAL Excellent news for Brian Kerr and the Faroe Islands. Suni Olsen's 12th minute strike gives the Faroes a shock lead over Lithuania. Faroe Islands 1-0 Lithuania

5.22pm Arsenal's Czech midfielder Tomas Rosicky made his first competitive appearance after 20 months on the sidelines when he started against minnows San Marino.

5.20pm Rebecca Hausler wants Italy to win because 'their players are the cutest'.

Funny, we were just saying that in the RTÉ Sport office as well.

5.16pm The Faroe Islands, now under Brian Kerr, have improved quite a bit since the former Republic of Ireland manager was appointed. Conceding only 11 goals in seven qualification games in a great achievement I reckon. They have just kicked off against Lithuania.

HAT-TRICK! He is a goal-machine (well, not really, had not heard of him in about two years since last Saturday). Milan Baros converts a penalty on the stroke of half-time. Czech Republic 3-0 San Marino.

GOAL Milan Baros makes it two, 44 minutes gone and the Czech Republic double their lead. Czech Republic 2-0 San Marino.

5.00pm Paul Casey in New York is desperate to see Bulgaria win tonight.

It is funny to hear that many Irish fans do not hold much confidence in the team at the moment and that Ireland should be happy to settle for a play-off, while others think we should be hoping the Italians crumble tonight and leave it at win or bust for Trap's men.

GOAL: The first goal of the night and no surprise it is for the Czech Republic. Milan Baros scored last Saturday and he has followed it up this evening. Czech Republic 1-0 San Marino.

4.45pm Thanks to Darran Hannon for this:

For this, and so many other reasons, please let them draw!'

4.30pm Czech Republic and San Marino kicked off 15 minutes ago. Credit to San Marino for holding out so far, it remains scoreless. The tiny nation has conceded 37 goals in 8 games so far this campaign.

4.20pm Peter Synott, a Shamrock Rovers fan, has e-mailed to wish Alan Mannus and Northern Ireland tonight. A minibus of supporters are on-route to support Mannus.

Dare I say that 'luck' and 'Shamrock Rovers' are two terms that have been used a lot this season?

4.18pm The nation has been debating the last few days: What result do we want in Italy tonight?

Settle for a play-off and hope the Italians win? What if Bulgaria take the three points and blow the group wide open? Giovanni Trapattoni wants it to be a draw.

Let us know your thoughts: sportonline@rte.ie

4.15pm We are approaching the hour mark in Estonia, it is still level.

4.00pm Scotland goalkeeper Craig Gordon has been ruled out of tonight's World Cup qualifier against Holland, according to the Press Association.

That is another big blow for the Scots.

3.57pm England are at home to Croatia at 8pm and will qualify for the finals with a win.

Northern Ireland host Slovakia at 7.45 and would go top of their group with a victory.

Elsewhere Scotland entertain Holland at 7.30pm and Wales play Russia at 7.45pm.

3.52pm The World Cup qualifiers begin at 4.20pm, but you can follow updates from the Republic of Ireland's under 21's match in Estonia on the link above. There was early drama and the Irish will be hopeful of pushing on for victory now.
