Limerick FC have announced that they have accepted the resignation of manager Mike Kerley.

Kerley tendered his resignation this afternoon, and a statement on the club's website said that the club were disappointed with the decision but thanked him for his contribution last season.

The statement also said that the Shannonsiders will finalise their squad for the upcoming League of Ireland First Division season early next week.

Limerick will begin their campaign with a visit to UCD on Friday, 6 March.

Kerley's position at Jackman Park has long been a tenuous one, and quotes attributed to him in today's Limerick Leader suggested there had been recent acrimony behind the scenes.

'I am fairly happy with how the preparations for the new season have gone, but it could have been better,' Kerley said.

'There has been a lot of changes recently with Jack McCarthy taking over as club chairman. I sorted out my own position just last week.'
