Marseille have confirmed that they ended their interest in veteran striker Henrik Larsson.

Larsson, a free agent after his contract at Helsingborg officially came to an end on New Year's Eve, had been linked with a move to Marseille.

All parties were interested but Marseille have now abandoned the idea with the former Sweden frontman hesitating on a final decision.

'The club have decided today to end discussions with Henrik Larsson, 37, over a proposed move to Marseille,' read a statement on the club website.

'The club respects the Swedish striker's wish to take time to make a decision, but OM can not wait for his decision any longer and from now on are going down another route.

'Marseille salutes the transparency and the professionalism in which these discussions have been allowed to take place.'

Larsson, who lists Celtic, Barcelona and Feyenoord among his former clubs, spent two months on loan at Manchester United at the beginning of 2007.
