Barcelona's Samuel Eto'o went from villain to hero in the biggest game in Spanish football, fumbling home a late winner after missing a second half penalty.
One minute from time, Lionel Messi put the icing on the cake with a cheeky chip, which Fabio Cannavaro came painfully close to clearing before colliding even more painfully with the post.
Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas had put in a fantastic performance for Madrid, including saving Eto'o's poor penalty, but was perhaps at fault for the goal, failing to collect a corner, and lying helpless as Eto'o somehow bundled the loose ball across the line.
Real Madrid seemed to be systematically fouling Lionel Messi, with six different players fouling him within the opening fifteen minutes.
Drenthe had a glorious opportunity to put Madrid ahead late in the first half when he was one-on-one with Vitor Valdes, but the Barca keeper stood tall, narrowed the angles and blocked his effort.
Shortly after his penalty save, Casillas was again to the rescue for the defending champions, getting down well to save an Eto'o effort, then quickly recovering to stop Messi's follow-up effort - although the Argentinian was in an offside position in any case.
But Barca's pressure eventually paid off, and they now hold a 12 point lead over their arch rivals.
