Northern Ireland and Sunderland striker David Healy has spoken of his 'good fortune' after being awarded an MBE.
Healy, 29, was given the honour not just because of his scoring achievements for the province - a record 35 goals - but also because of his charity work.
He said: 'I am constantly reminded of my own good fortune and how so many incredible people give so selflessly of themselves every day, to help improve the lives of others.
'I hope in the future to add my support to the work of these people, in whatever way I can.
'Receiving my MBE has been an extremely proud, yet humbling occasion. This honour is something I never expected, certainly not as a young boy starting my playing career in Killyleagh.'
Healy, Northern Ireland's sporting ambassador for the London 2012 Olympics, added: 'I encourage young people to participate in sport and the community, you never know what you can achieve until you try.'
