Two men arrested on suspicion of shouting racist and homophobic chants at a football match have been released on bail, police said today.
Hampshire police has released images of 16 men who are believed to have shouted the abuse at Portsmouth's Sol Campbell during a game against Tottenham.
The photos show the suspects caught on camera by a police officer at the match at Fratton Park on 28 September.
A 36-year-old man from Wokingham, Surrey, and a 28-year-old man from Ringwood, Hampshire, who were arrested yesterday after handing themselves in to Portsmouth police stations, have been bailed until 21 January.
They were questioned on suspicion of indecent or racial chanting at a designated football match.
A police spokeswoman said: ‘Officers still want to hear from anyone who recognises the remaining 14 people.’
The offence of indecent or racist chanting under the Football Offences Act 1991 can be punished by a fine of up to £1,000 and can also lead to a football banning order.
