Drogheda United have been deducted ten points by the eircom League’s licensing committee after the club entered examinership.

The controversial decision will cost Drogs a place in Europe next season as the Louth side drop to eighth in the table but opens the door to Cork City or Sligo Rovers to claim a much coveted European berth.

Drogheda are the second top flight club to be punished with a ten-point penalty this season after Cork City also fell foul of the committee.

Drogheda have the right to appeal the committee’s decision.
