The identity of Argentina's new coach could be revealed later this week, according to their Football Association president Julio Grondona.
Grondona revealed the Argentina Football Association (AFA) would discuss the potential candidates to succeed Alfio Basile in a meeting on Monday evening.
The AFA have been looking for a new national team coach since October 16 when Basile stepped down for personal reasons.
Carlos Bianchi - who has won a number of national and continental club titles at Velez Sarsfield and Boca Juniors - Miguel Angel Russo, the boss of current Apertura leaders San Lorenzo,
Sergio Batista, coach of the Argentina under-20 side, and Diego Maradona are reported to be in the frame.
‘There are several options and we hope we can have the name as soon as possible,’ Grondona said.
‘We must take the necessary time to see what the best option is. We must consider that this appointment will not be for a four-year spell, but for one-and-a-half years.
‘We will have no news today (Monday). People will know the name of the new coach of the national team as soon as possible, but not today.
‘Maybe during the week we can make a decision. I want to know what the members of the committee think.’
Batista, who led Argentina's Under-23 to the Olympic gold medal in Beijing earlier this year, will coach the senior side on 19 November, when Argentina play a friendly international against Scotland in Glasgow.
However, Grondona said: ‘We cannot consider just one match enough to define whether he continues or not.’
