Liverpool have signed Albert Riera and let go of Andrei Voronin, in a loan deal, and Republic of Ireland international Steve Finnan, while the club also confirmed that Fernando Torres will be out for 'two to three weeks'.
Torres will be out for "between two and three weeks" with a torn hamstring. The Spain striker faces a race to be fit for the Reds' Champions League opener at Marseille on September 16.
Torres limped off in the goalless draw at Aston Villa on Sunday and has been withdrawn from the Spain squad ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Bosnia and Armenia.
A Liverpool spokesman said: 'A scan this afternoon has confirmed a hamstring tear in Fernando's right leg. He is expected to be out for between two and three weeks.'
Riera has signed from La Liga side Espanyol for an undisclosed fee. The 26-year-old has signed a four-year contract at Anfield after choosing Rafael Benitez's side over a host of other clubs including neighbours Everton.
Riera, who has been given the number 11 shirt at Anfield, has previously played in the Barclays Premier League in the 2005-06 season when he was on loan at Manchester City.
Espanyol have signed full-back Finnan on a two-year contract, while Voronin has agreed a one-year loan deal with German side Hertha Berlin.
32-year-old Finnan, who has spent the last five seasons at Liverpool, will help provide defensive cover at Espanyol following the recent departure of right-back Pablo Zabaleta to Manchester City.
Finnan will be on international duty with Gionvanni Trapattoni's squad for the next week as Ireland prepare for their World Cup qualifiers, but Espanyol hope he will be available to make his debut for Bartolome Marquez's side in the home match against Getafe on September 21.
The Barcelona-based club announced the news on their website: saying: ‘Liverpool have transferred Steve Finnan to Espanyol. The Ireland international has committed himself for two seasons.
‘Finnan is with the Republic of Ireland to play on Saturday against Georgia and on the following Wednesday against Montenegro.
‘The defender will then go to Liverpool afterwards to collect all his things and will move to Barcelona between the 14th and 15th (September) and as such will be available to Marquez ahead of the third game of the season.’
No fee was mentioned for the former Fulham, Notts County and Birmingham defender.
Ukraine international Voronin signed for Liverpool on a Bosman free transfer last summer and scored six goals in 27 appearances.
However, the impact of Fernando Torres restricted his first-team opportunities and Robbie Keane's arrival this summer forced him further down the pecking order, prompting the forward to move back to the Bundesliga, where he previously played for Bayer Leverkusen, Cologne, Mainz and Borussia Monchengladbach.
Earleir, manager Rafael Benitez added to the club's Brazilian contingent after youngster Vitor Flora joined the Reds on a free transfer.
The club confirmed on www.liverpoolfc.tv that a deal has been agreed for the 18-year-old striker, who holds an Italian passport and spent last season with Brazilian outfit Botafogo.
Flora joins compatriots Lucas and Fabio Aurelio at Anfield and could make his debut in the reserve-team fixture against Middlesbrough tomorrow if international clearance is received in time.
Liverpool also confirmed the permanent signing of Hungarian goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi, who spent last season on loan playing for the reserves, from MTK Hungaria.
