The Republic of Ireland's interest in the Four Nations tournament ended when they slipped to defeat with Ukraine claiming a deserved win with an early second half goal against a disappointing home side.
Paul Murphy had the first chance of the game shooting wide from the right as Ireland started brightly by forcing 3 corner kicks in the opening 10 minutes.
However Ukraine almost took the lead on 11 minutes but goalkeeper Kieron Thorp got down well to push around his post a shot from visiting captain Karnoza Artur.
A fine overlapping run down the left by Shane O'Connor on 21 minutes created the opening for Paul Murphy but the Ipswich player was denied by Partsvaniya Timur who somehow scooped the shot over the bar to gratefully concede a corner kick.
Murphy, Conor Clifford and Darragh McNamara had further half chances for the Irish in a half of few clear-cut opportunities.
Murphy ended the action for the home side with a strike straight at the keeper 3 minutes from the break.
The second half was just five minutes old when Ukraine took the lead from a dead ball situation. Shane O'Connor was adjudged to have fouled Garmash Denys on the edge of the penalty area and Korkishko Dmytriy stepped up to plant the free kick past Kieron Thorp who remained rooted to his line.
In a rare Irish attack O'Connor shot over as the goal seemed to inspire the visitors and Thorp had to be at his best just after the hour mark to push away another direct free kick taken this time by Artur.
Ireland were a disappointment for the 500 home supporters during the second half with a rare chance falling to Paddy Madden after 77 minutes whose shot from a Jamie Devitt pass was blocked by the visiting defence.
Most danger for the Irish came down the right wing where Hull Citys Devitt tried his best to inspire with some fine touches.
Three corner kicks in a row in the final 10 minutes saw Ireland's last chance arise from the final one taken by Shane O'Connor.
Sunderland's Niall McArdle rose highest in the penalty area but was unable to direct his header on target as Ukraine survived to record their first win in the tournament and leave Ireland pointless.
