France's style of play over the past few years represents everything bad about football, according to former Les Bleus forward Eric Cantona.
The French were eliminated from Euro 2008 in the group stages and were criticised for their negative approach, especially in their goalless draw against Romania.
Cantona, who scored 20 goals in 45 appearances for France between 1987 and 1995, believes his country have played 'boring' football ever since winning the World Cup on home soil in 1998.
'What I see from the France team is everything I hate in football,' said the former Leeds and Manchester United forward.
'With Les Bleus having won a World Cup by playing a boring game, we came away thinking that it was impossible to play any other way.
'But nothing says they wouldn't have won by playing attractive football.'
Raymond Domenech is expected to be axed as France coach after four years in the post.
The French Football Federation have announced a decision on his future will be made on 3 July, following a thorough review of the Euros and his work of the last four years.
Didier Deschamps, France's World Cup-winning captain from 1998, is the overwhelming favourite to take over and has received support from the likes of former Les Bleus stars Christophe Dugarry, Marcel Desailly and Christian Karembeu.
But Cantona does not believe the appointment of Deschamps will cure France's ills.
'On the footballing side of things, to name Deschamps would be, in my opinion, a continuation of Domenech,' added the 42-year-old in French magazine Sport.
