Broadcast transmission of the Euro 2008 semi-final between Germany and Turkey in Basel was repeatedly disrupted in the second half owing to violent storms in Vienna.

Winds of up to 100 kilometres per hour, alongside torrential rain
and hail descended on the Austrian capital, where the International Broadcast Centre for the tournament is located.

As a result of the breakdowns, viewers' across Europe were unable to watch live coverage of Germany's second goal, scored by Miroslav Klose.

The fan zone in Vienna had  to be evacuated as a result of the inclement conditions. Giant TV screens in the 100,000-square-metre 'fan mile' already broadacast storm warnings earlier in the evening.

Over 28,000 football enthusiasts were in the fan zone at kick-off at 8:45pm local time,  but the rain dispersed many.
