Paul Ince has emerged as the clear favourite to take over at Blackburn Rovers.

The MK Dons manager tops Blackburn’s wish-list after Mark Hughes left to take over at Manchester City.

Ex-England boss Steve McClaren, Sam Allardyce and Michael Laudrup were also said to be in the running, but Ince is set to beat them all to the post.

However, Blackburn chairman John Williams said that no one has been offered the position yet.

‘We are now down to a small short-list,’ Williams told BBC Radio Lancashire. ‘I am delighted with how the process is going and we hope to make a decision by the weekend.

‘We have steadily gone about our business in the proper manner but we have not yet made an offer to anyone at this stage.’

McClaren, fired as England boss in November, has already declared his desire in the Ewood Park hot seat, while former Bolton boss Allardyce has also been looking for a new role since parting company with Bolton last season.

And reports in Denmark reveal that ex-Getafe manager Laudrup was interviewed for the job recently.

Ince, 40, starred for West Ham, Manchester United, Inter Milan and Liverpool in a distinguished playing career and his MK Dons side were League Two champions and also won the Football League Trophy last season.
