Sporting Fingal progressed to the fourth round of the FAI Ford Cup at Morton Stadium by taking the scalp of Premier Division side Cobh Ramblers.
Peter Hynes was the hero for the First Division team, scoring twice in the second half to earn the Dublin sidea well-deserved victory.
Cobh rarely threatened and can have no complaints with their exit which comes twelve months after they were knocked out by non-league Douglas Hall at the same stage.
Sporting striker Robbie Doyle had scored eight times in his previous six matches and could have extended that streak on the half hour mark only for his spectacular volley from 35 yards to rebound off the crossbar with goalkeeper James McCarthy beaten.
Graham Cummins wasted a great chance at the other end nine minutes before the break when he broke free and shot but goalkeeper Steve Williams kept the attempt out his legs.
Cobh were defending for large periods of the match and eventually fell behind to a slick goal by the hosts on 59 minutes.
Fiachra McArdle burst into the penalty area from the left side and his drag-back found Hynes who stroked his first-time shot low into the corner.
It was the same duo that combined for the second goal 15 minutes from time.
McArdle spotted the run of Hynes with a splendid through pass from the half-way line and the striker rounded goalkeeper James McCarthy before tapping the ball home into an empty net.
The closest Cobh came to finding a goal in the second half was on 64 minutes when defender Kevin Murray ghosted into the box unmarked but could only shoot tamely at Williams from six yards.
