Liverpool defender Steve Finnan could come out of international retirement after admitting he is set to meet new Republic of Ireland coach Giovanni Trapattoni.
Finnan quit after Ireland failed to qualify for Euro 2008 but Trapattoni wants to persuade the right-back to return to the fold.
The 32-year-old is tempted by the prospect of working with the legendary Italian, who is unbeaten in his first two Ireland matches, in next season's World Cup qualifiers.
'We're going to have a chat. When a new manager comes in that's normal, and out of respect you have to do so,' Finnan told Liverpool's official website.
‘The opportunity to work with someone of that experience is very tempting. He's got a great CV and he's done really well at lots of clubs. Everyone in my position would consider it.
‘No deadline's been put on making a final decision but I take it he'll want to know before the first World Cup qualifier.’
