The Russian Embassy says Irish football fans with valid match tickets for the Champions' League final will not require a visa to travel to Moscow this month.
A spokesman at the embassy has told RTÉ Radio that the new Russian President, Dmitry Medvedev, is to sign an order waiving the visa requirement for Irish supporters travelling to the final.
He said he had been assured that the decree would be signed in the coming days.
The official said that anyone with a valid ticket and a current passport would be allowed entry to Russia, under the terms of the special decree, to attend the Champions League decider between Manchester United and Chelsea.
A number of supporters have already purchased visas to travel to the country after there was confusion on the issue. The spokesman indicated that they would not be eligible for a refund.
Earlier today, the Department of Foreign Affairs advised intending travellers to ensure they had a visa to ensure they were allowed to enter the country.
