RTÉ Television’s coverage of the both of the UEFA Champions League Semi-Final second leg matches this week attracted huge viewing figures, with audiences peaking at 696,000* and 838,000* respectively.

Wednesday’s semi-final second leg which saw Chelsea take on Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, attracted an average audience of 536,000 and a share of 38%.

The game, which went into extra-time, saw the audience peak at an impressive 838,000 and a 55% share during the final minutes of the game as Chelsea emerged as winners on the night.

Manchester United’s clash with Barcelona on Tuesday, attracted another huge audience with an average of 417,000 viewers tuning in and an audience share of 31%.

The final minutes of the game attracted a peak audience of 696,000 viewers and 45% share as the Red Devils secured their place in this year’s final.

RTÉ Television’s live coverage of the Chelsea v Liverpool match on RTÉ Two was the most popular programme in Ireland on Wednesday, while RTÉ Television’s live coverage of Manchester United V Barcelona on RTÉ Two was the second most popular programme in Ireland on Tuesday night.  

RTÉ.ie has tripled the number of streams served since the beginning of the season to 20,760 streams for this week’s semi-final matches.

Last night Chelsea v Liverpool had over 11,500 streams served, breaking the 10,000 mark for the first time ever in RTÉ.ie’s Champions League coverage.
