Mid-table Wexford Youths and Longford Town shared the points from this eircom League First Division game at Ferrycarrig Park.
Longford Town had an ideal start taking the lead in the fourth minute.
The home defence failed to clear the ball, which then broke to Alan Lynch just inside the area and he powered a rising shot into the net off the right hand post.
The visitors had the better of the opening 20 minutes but the closest they came to adding to their tally came in the 14th minute when Gary Murphy had a shot well blocked by 'keeper Jason Russell.
Just when it looked as if Longford were about to take a firm grip on the game, Wexford Youths scored the equalising goal after 36 minutes.
Richie Fitzgerald won possession on the right wing and closed in on goal; his low shot beat Shay Kelly and finished in the bottom right hand corner of the net, leaving the sides 1-1 at the interval.
Wexford Youths came close to taking the lead in the 60th minute when Kelly made a tremendous save from a Gavin Doyle shot.
Then, barely 30 seconds later, the home side were reduced to ten players when Joey Wadding was sent-off for a professional foul on Adrian Gregg just outside the area.
Down to ten players, Wexford Youths decided to tighten their defence.
Longford Town were unable to create a winning chance and ably dealt with a couple of long-range speculative efforts from Fitzgerald and Doyle.
Wexford Youths held out under intense pressure in the closing minutes as they took their seventh point from nine maintaining their recent fine run.
