Longford Town picked up their first win since their opening day victory against Sporting Fingal when they blitzed Monaghan at Flancare Park.
The visitors fell behind in the 23rd minute. Ian Malone was penalised for handling the ball inside the area and home skipper Daire Doyle slotted home from the penalty spot.
Longford extended this lead in the 40th minute when Iarlaith Davoren's attempted lob came back off the post and Gary Murphy followed up to scramble the ball home.
Within two minutes Murphy added to his tally with a sublime third goal. The midfielder was was confronted by two defenders and the goalkeeper but spotted the opportunity to lob all three outside the area.
Monaghan had their moments too. Brian Gartland should have scored for them shortly after half time but his shot came back off the crossbar.
