Dundalk moved to the top of the eircom League First Division courtesy of this hard-earned victory over Longford Town at Flancare Park.
The home side had been dominating possession for long periods in the game but they fell behind in the 59th minute.
David O'Connor whipped in a left-wing cross, which was flicked on by former Longford player Robbie Martin. Waiting unmarked was Aidan Lynch, and he had the simplest of tasks to fire the visitors ahead.
Dundalk wrapped up the points in the 76th minute when 34-year-old veteran,Trevor Vaughan scored a quite terrific insurance goal. Vaughan skipped past Ryan Casey before angling his shot past Shay Kelly.
Longford did pull a goal back two minutes from time. Gary Murphy curled in an inch-perfect cross and Darren McKenna headed home his fourth goal in three games.
