Republic of Ireland international Stephen O'Halloran has travelled to the US to undergo surgery on his anterior cruciate ligament injury.
The Aston Villa left-back incurred the injury when warming up for what would have been his debut on his loan spell at Leeds United.
The 20-year-old Cobh native is being treated by renowned specialist Dr Richard Steadman.
O’Halloran told www.avfc.co.uk: 'Hopefully everything will go well with Dr Steadman and then I can start working towards a return.
'I'm still frustrated by the injury, but there's no point feeling sorry for myself. I've just got to work hard and do everything the physios tell me to do.'
The Villa defender made his international debut in the Republic's US tour last summer.
