Both Cobh Ramblers and Galway United claimed a first point of the eircom League of Ireland Premier League campaign after a lively second half at St Coleman's Park.
Cobh jumped in front when Kieran O'Reilly powerfully headed a Davin O'Neill cross to the roof of Gary Rogers' net after 63 minutes.
But the visitors fought back to equalise when a Gary Deegan pass found Derek O'Brien whose well struck shot took a deflection on its way past goalkeeper James McCarthy.
This was Ramblers' first home game back in Premier Division football after a gap of 13 years. The Cork side last tasted the big time in the 1994/95 season.
Both sides were hoping to get something out of the fixture having lost their opening league games of the campaign the previous week by the odd goal.
The two managers made changes, with Stephen Henderson bringing Davin O'Neill, last season's top scorer for the First Division champions, into the home attack for the injured Gareth Cambridge.
Tony Cousins gave a full debut to Ollie Fenn, a recent signing from Ipswich Town. John Russell also came into the Galway line-up, with John Lester and James O'Shea dropping to the bench.
Cobh went closest to scoring in the first half when Kieran O'Reilly crossed for Davin O'Neill but the striker's shot from 15 yards just went wide.
Following his goal, O'Reilly almost created a second when his cross skidded across the face of goal.
Derek O'Brien's deserved equaliser was the result of a powerful shot, which struck a defender on the way to the net.
