Below are the nominations received for Athlone Town:

Watch RTÉ Sport archive footage of League of Ireland greats such as Brendan Bradley, Liam Coyle, Jonathan Speak, Jackie Jameson, Tony Fagan, Brendan Storan, Peter Thomas, Al Finucane, Ben Hannigan, Mick Leech and Miah Dennehy.

Eugene Davis nominated by Jim Feury
Great goal scorer, with an eye for assisting other forwards. Took time to adapt to Turlough O'Connor's team after leaving Shamrock Rovers but once he gelled with the team, he was amazing. You always expected him to score and helped 'The Town' break the Dublin teams' hold on the league. A legend to this day.

Tommy Barclay nominated by Pajoe Greene
My nomination for the above is Tommy Barclay from Athlone Town. He played under Dougie Wood and was a great goal poacher with a great touch.

Rod de Khors nominated by Noel Marsden
Joined Athlone Town three times and was a legend for them each time! Always gave 110% and was a supporters' favourite. He also has a biography written about him by Kevin O'Neill in Athlone. Am sure he'll get nominated by many other supporters.

Michael O’Connor nominated by Gordon Brett
Michael O'ConnorI’d like to nominate Michael O’Connor, Athlone Town FC who also played with Shamrock Rovers and Dundalk. He scored over 100 league goals which very few people have achieved and also won major honours at each of the clubs he played for. He also managed Athlone Town FC to promotion from the First Division to the Premier Division. Michael also played on two league winning teams with Athlone Town FC in 1980-81 and 1982-83 with his brothers Turlough as manager and Padraig as captain.

John Minnock nominated by Brendan O'Neill
It's funny to think that if he had scored that penalty in St Mel's Park against AC Milan in September 1975 he would have been a national folk hero. For it would have indeed been the greatest of European victories for an Irish club. Regardless 'Minnow' was a great player and a joy to watch. Thanks for the memories and I hope that he makes Athlone Town's best player list, he certainly deserves it.

Michael O’Connor nominated by Eugene McGivern
Micheal O’Connor is without doubt the greatest Athlone Town player ever. Not only did he score goals for Athlone Town but was twice manager at the club. His overall goal scoring record in the League of Ireland is still up there near the top and it is about 10 years since he last played in the league.

Pat Joyce nominated by Emma Hinchey
I think Pat deserves the greatest player title as he is the most dedicated footballer I have ever met. He manages Brendanville and he loves them more than his kids.

Padraig Dully nominated by Darragh Knox

Eugene Davis nominated by Niall Murphy
I would like to nominate Eugene Davis from the Athlone Town teams of the 70s.The greatest Irish talent outside of Brady and O'Leary of that time. He couldn't run but he could score. Come on The Town.
