Ray Houghton has tonight defended the length of time that it has taken to appoint a new Irish football manager.
Houghton is part of a three-man selection committee, along with Don Givens and Don Howe, who have been interviewing candidates for the position, before making a recommendation to the FAI.
According to the FAI, a new manager will be in place within the next eight days and in an interview on Sky television tonight Houghton said that he understood the general frustration with the drawn-out process.
He added that it was essential that every effort was made to secure what he described as ' the right man'.
