Portsmouth striker Jermain Defoe has been called up to the England squad for Wednesday's international against Switzerland after the withdrawal of Gabriel Agbonlahor.

Agbonlahor injured a hamstring in Aston Villa's 2-1 Barclays Premier League defeat against Fulham at Craven Cottage today.

And after he pulled out England boss Fabio Capello turned to Defoe, who moved from Tottenham to Portsmouth last week and marked his debut yesterday with the equalising goal in a 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Fratton Park.
