Namibia 1-5 Morocco

A first-half hat-trick from Soufiane Alloudi helped Morocco open their African Nations Cup campaign with an emphatic triumph over Namibia.

The striker scored all his goals within the first half-hour, with Tarik Sektioui's penalty and substitute Monsef Zerka's effort completing the scoring for the victors. Brian Brendell struck Namibia's consolation.

Henri Michel's team, who were knocked out at the first hurdle in 2006 without scoring a goal, started well in Accra and took the lead in only the second minute.

A long ball caught the Brave Warriors' defence napping and Marouane Chamakh showed strength to beat off a defender and hit the post, before the ball came back to him to lay it on for Alloudi to tap home.

Three minutes later, the lead was doubled after Youssef Hadji threaded an excellent ball through to the Al Ain forward and he flicked his way past a defender before crashing the ball in.

Another defensive error shortly after almost cost Namibia as Richard Gariseb's lapse allowed in Hadji, who shot straight at the goalkeeper Abisai Shiningayamwe.

The lead was cut in the 23rd minute when a neatly-threaded ball from midfield picked out Brendell and he cut inside the last defender and finished low into the bottom corner from close range to lift Namibia spirits.

But the two-goal cushion was restored in the 28th minute when Alloudi nodded home Sektioui's pin-point cross from the left to complete his hat-trick.

Eleven minutes later it was four when referee Evehe Divine awarded a penalty after Michael
Basser was brought down and Sektioui made no mistake from 12 yards.

Morocco's Elamine Erbate had the first chance of the second half, delivering a curling free-kick that was comfortably dealt with by Shiningayamwe.

In the 70th minute, Namibia finally created another real chance, but Collin Benjamin's shot was kept out by the legs of Khalid Fouhami in the Morocco goal.

Zerka then wrapped up the win for the north Africans in the 73rd minute by rising highest to nod home the fifth from a Youssef Mokhtari corner.

The comprehensive victory moves Morocco to the top of Group A on goal difference from hosts Ghana, who beat Guinea 2-1 on Sunday.
