Luton Town's administrators have terminated the contracts of manager Kevin Blackwell and his coaching staff with immediate effect.

Blackwell announced last week that he, assistant Sam Ellis and coach John Carver would leave the troubled Coca-Cola League One side on 9 February.

But administrator Brendan Guilfoyle has decided to terminate the trio's contracts  - the day after their 5-0 FA Cup defeat to Liverpool.

Blackwell slammed the club in a statement last week saying: 'We came to Luton in the spring with a clear mission and it revolved around ambition, adequate investment for growth and real promise of a new stadium. Very quickly we found out that Luton Town Football Club did not do what it said on the tin.

'We have ended up managing a squad of players who do not know if they are being paid or have a future with the football club. This is becoming more relevant as we speak.

The news comes the day after a consortium, Luton Town Football Club 2020 Limited, were given a period of exclusivity to negotiate purchasing the troubled club.

The consortium are fronted by television presenter Nick Owen.

Luton are currently in the League One relegation zone after being given an obligatory ten-point deduction for entering administration in November last year.
