Finn Harps manager Paul Hegarty has signed a new three-year contract with the Donegal club, ending all speculation that he might be poised to move to neighbours Derry City.

A native of Donegal and a former player, he guided Harps to promotion in November via the play-offs.

Hegarty stressed that his aim is to build a Harps team that is able to compete with the big clubs in the eircom League and not just to be battling to survive in the top flight.

'We will have a real go and try to do something positive,' he stated at a press conference in Ballybofey tonight, adding that he hopes to bring in four or five new players.

The club also revealed that it intends to employ a number of players on a full-time rather than a part-time basis and the budget for next season will be 'substantially higher'.
