Shamrock Rovers boss Pat Scully is wasting little time in bringing in new players to strengthen the Hoops squad for the 2008 season.

Following recent arrival Stephen Rice, Darragh Maguire and Sean
O'Connor (both ex-Saint Patrick's Athletic) and Darren Stapleton
(Kildare County) have all agreed terms.

'I'm delighted that we've signed these players,' says Scully. 'We're now starting to look strong in every area and the new squad is really beginning to take shape.

'Certain areas needed to be strengthed and when you look at the
quality of the players who've come in we're definitely moving in the right direction.'

Perhaps the biggest coup of the three is the signing of Maguire. The centre-back will bring some much needed experience to the young Hoops squad.

'I was always a huge admirer of Darragh,' said Scully. 'As soon as
he became available we immediately moved in for him as he's a player of great quality.

'He's as good a centre-half as you'd find in the league, and he's also a model professional who will bring a wealth of experience  and influence to the club.'

Scully also revelaed his admiration for O'Connor and Stapleton. 'Sean is a player I've tried to sign on four different occasions. Even when he was at Crumlin in the Leinster Senior League he was clearly a player of fantastic ability.

'Damien's a left back and that's an area we needed to strengthen. We'll give him a little bit of time to adjust to life at Shamrock Rovers and I've every confidence in him,' he added.
