Bohemians qualified for the European Inter Toto Cup when they took third place ahead of their nearest rivals Cork City after this vital win at Turners Cross.

The only goal was unfortunate for young Cork defender Sean Kelly who sliced the ball past his own goalkeeper Michael Devine eight minutes before the break.

Cork now have the FAI Cup final with Longford as their only route to European footabll this season, and the nearest they came to an equaliser was a last minute Billy Woods effort taken off the line.

This was the fifth meeting between the sides in all competitions and there was only goal difference separated the sides with Bohemians in third place just ahead of Cork.

Both side had won a league game each at home by 2-1, with the Dalymount Park club winning the League Cup quarter final 3-2 at home, but Damien Richardson's side gained revenge in their FAI Cup semi-final win over the visitors two weeks ago, with a 2-0 win in Dublin.

Liam Kearney who scored the two goals in that match lasted just half an hour this time, before he had to limp off with a calf injury.

This was seven minutes before Bohemians scored through an own goal from Cork centre back Seàn Kelly. The young defender, who scored his first goal for the club with the winning score in Sligo six days earlier,  sliced a shot from outside the penalty area over the head of goalkeeper Michael Devine.

The visitors went close to adding to that lead when Michael McGinlay shot wide just after the break, and Harpol Singh curled a twenty yard free kick just past the Cork post with Devine beaten after 65 minutes.
